Consultant Community Paediatrician

Job summary

We are recruiting for a 6PA substantive Consultant Community Paediatrician to be based at the Child Development Centre Worthing Hospital with an earliest start date of May 2026. As a Consultant in Community Paediatrics the candidate will be responsible for delivering high quality paediatric assessment and care to children and young people within the Worthing, Adur and Chanctonbury areas.

We are looking for an engaging and enthusiastic professional, who is fully committed to the ideals of the RCPCH and the values of our UHSussex Trust. Potential candidates should be keen to drive forward standards and work with a motivated multidisciplinary team including consultants, junior doctors, psychologist, nurses, therapists, dieticians and other members of tertiary specialist services either within the Trust or from Tertiary referral centres.

Main duties of the job

This is a 6PA replacement post following the retirement of a colleague. The team has a flexible approach to the delivery of services and the applicant is encouraged to discuss potential areas of interest they may wish to develop.

There is no out of hours on call commitment.

The post-holder will join a department of established consultants. The team have a variety of complimentary special interests and works closely with the general paediatricians on both the Worthing and Chichester sites through a range of joint educational and governance activities. Following the merger with Brighton, there is increasing cross site integration.

Will be expected to develop a lead specialist role in collaboration with colleagues.

Will undertake neurodisability and neurodevelopmental assessments with the multidisciplinary team in the Child Development Centre

Will attend the weekly Child Development Team meeting

Will conduct medical examination of children as part of a safeguarding investigation at the request of social services and police of children suspected of being abused

Will conduct medical assessments of Children We Care For

Will provide medical advice for Education, Health and Care Plans

Will attend Case Conferences and multi-disciplinary reviews as appropriate.

Will provide specialist advice to GPs and other health professionals on neurodisability, safeguarding and signposting children to appropriate services in the community.

Will contribute to the medical teaching programmes at undergraduate and post graduate levels including teaching and training for Community Child Health staff, Hospital staff, Nursing staff, Teachers, Social Workers and other professionals as requested

Will participate in medical and clinical audit

Will work closely with Commissioners identifying child health needs in the population

Experience/Qualification

Essential

  • Basic Medical Degree
  • MRCPCH or appropriate specialist qualification
  • FRC/MRC Community Paediatrics, paediatric Neurodisability. or its recognised equivalent.
  • Full and specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the GMC or be eligible for registration within six months of the interview. o If you trained in the UK, you must also have a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Community Paediatrics or be within six months of receiving it by the interview date. o If you trained outside the UK, you must provide evidence that your qualifications are equivalent to the UK CCT. (Equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)
