Job summary

This is a development role for motivated individuals looking to progress and develop into a Senior Maternity Support Worker. Over the course of 6-9 months you will be supported to complete your Care Certificate, undertake fundamental acute care competencies, undertake training and competencies in Maternity Theatre support skills (for WGH and SRH sites only) and progress to a Band 3 Senior Maternity Support Worker.

  • Thisis ashift working role,across a 24/7 service includingnights,weekendsand bank holidays (12.5 hourstypicallyfrom 07:30 - 20:00 or 20:00 - 07:30).

No previous healthcare experience is necessary. We will provide all the training you need before you start working on one of our wards. You will start on our induction programme to help you settle into our organisation and receive 2 week supernumerary time once on your allocated Maternity unit.

Job responsibilities

  • Assistin the implementation of agreed plans of carealongsidethe wider team andincollaboration with serviceusers.

  • Assist members of the wider team to set up and perform clinical procedures.

  • Ensure clinical areasremainclean,tidy.

  • Followingappropriate training, undertake clinical care includingmonitoring and recording vital signs, taking swabs, venepuncture, removing catheters and cannulasetc,on instruction from the qualified midwife, with the support of senior maternity support workers on shift. Recording the results appropriately and reporting any abnormalities to the Midwife or Midwife in Charge.

  • Support and teach parents the skillsrequiredtoestablishand maintain infant feeding.

  • To restock departmental areas as required reporting any shortages to the Midwife in Charge /Ward Manager
