Job summary
The Band 6 Lung Cancer Associate Nurse delivers high-quality, patient-centred care to individuals diagnosed with lung cancer, supporting them throughout the cancer pathway. The role includes coordinating care, providing clinical assessment, symptom management, patient and family education, and psychosocial support. Working autonomously and as part of the multidisciplinary team, the post holder contributes to treatment planning, supports service improvement, and provides guidance and support to junior staff in line with evidence-based practice and national cancer standards.
Main duties of the job

Act as a key point of contact for patients, carers, and professionals, providing clinical advice and support throughout the lung cancer pathway.

Coordinate and manage the lung cancer MDT helpline, triaging calls, responding to queries, escalating concerns appropriately, and ensuring timely follow-up.

Support medical staff during lung cancer clinics, including patient assessment, symptom management, patient education, and coordination of investigations and treatment plans.

Undertake holistic assessments, including physical, psychological, and social needs, and contribute to personalised care planning.

Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to support treatment decision-making and continuity of care.

Provide information and emotional support to patients and families, including treatment options, side effects, and self-management strategies.

Monitor and manage treatment-related symptoms and escalate clinical concerns in line with protocols.

Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation in accordance with Trust and national standards.

Support and supervise junior staff, students, and support workers, acting as a role model for best practice.

Contribute to service development, audit, and quality improvement initiatives within the lung cancer service.

Ensure care is delivered in line with evidence-based practice, national cancer guidelines, and Trust policies.
