Main duties of the job

  • Be responsive to the service needs as they arise and constantly seekto improve the productivity and quality of the service.

    Ensure personal conductis of the highest standard at all timeswhile on the hospital premises,exhibitingcourtesy and efficiency to patients,visitorsand users of the serviceat all times.

    Duties will include driving the Trusts Electrical Tug. When required, you may need toassist with the emergency and evacuation procedures.

    In this dynamic workingenvironmentthere will be a need to deal with dynamic changes and unpredictable situations that require immediate attention,patienceand a sense of humour.

    Assume personal responsibility for training & personal and professional development toensure adherence at all timeswith departmental operational currencies, procedures and Trust policies and standards, inclusive of signing as having read and understood all Policy & Standing Operational Procedures (SOPs), andadhered to at all times.

    To ensure effective staff engagement and communication.

    Responsible formaintainingand actively enhancing performance standards, supporting Key Performance Indicator

    To proactivelymaintainteam cohesionin order to continuously enhance the capability within the Waste Management Team and the Facilities Department as a whole. To act as a positive role model to peers.

  • Driving the Trusts Electrical Waste Tug & Trailer in a safe and appropriate manner.

  • Using the Trusts Domestic Waste Compactor.

  • Using the Trusts Cardboard Bailer.

  • Litter Picking.

  • Snow clearing duties.

  • Emptying the external waste bins.

  • Cleaning all external hospital signs.

  • Removal of broken/old furniture & equipment.

  • Labelling all clinical waste using the correct waste stream labels.

  • Ensure correct andappropriate useof radio, FSI (digital text messaging system) and other communication equipmentat all timesin compliance with the local guidelines and procedures

  • Liaise and communicate with the Helpdesk dispatchermaintainingprofessionalism at all times

  • If driving duties arerequiredthese must bein accordance withon-site restrictions,speedand statutory regulations.

  • Ensure the vehicle is roadworthy and safe before, during and after use, and complete relevant documentation within the prescribed frequencies.

  • Ensure vehicles are kept clean and tidy and are cleaned inside and out.

  • Report any vehicle defects or concernsimmediatelyto Assistant Duty Manager/Duty Manager.

  • In the event ofany fire/major accident or incident, man key entrances, check ID badges,assistpatients able to walk andassistnursing team with patients unable to walk.

  • Collection and safe removal and, whereappropriate, the recording of non-clinical and clinical waste within your area of work, in line with Trust policies and procedures.

  • Assist the Trust in running an effective waste recycling and waste minimisation system, including shredding whenrequired.

  • To have a flexible approach to working with new innovations and technologies to aid and enhance service delivery.

  • Ensure the cleanliness of the Porters lodge at all times.

  • Ensure the cleanliness of the waste areas at all times.

  • Maintain a clean,neatand tidy appearance,complying withTrust uniform and hand care guidelines andhigh standardsof personal hygiene.

  • Bedressed in the correct uniform at all timesincluding the wearing of name badges and Trust identity cards and to ensure that bothare clearly visible at all times

  • Reportimmediatelyto the Assistant Duty/Duty Manager and/or otherappropriate personany faults or defects to Trust equipment or premises, especially those which could be dangerous.

  • Report any accidents or near misses to theappropriate managerand complete theappropriate incident/accidentreport forms.
