Clinical

• To perform imaging examinations and care for patients during these examinations, respecting their rights of privacy and confidentially, thereby providing a high quality service to both patients and clinicians.
• To maintain a clean and work tidy environment and to identify faults with equipment or hazards (real or potential) and instigate actions to resolve these issues informing appropriate bodies where necessary.
• Undertake IV cannulation and contrast media administration.

• Ensure the Trust clinical risk and incident reporting policies are adhered to within the CT scanner

• Attend appropriate MDT and other clinical meetings.

• To maintain a flexible approach to working hours such as extended days and weekend working

Communication

• Attend all relevant meetings to represent the speciality both internally and externally
• To establish and maintain effective communication with all the radiographers, support staff and A&C staff associated with CT scanning.

To have an understanding of the concerns and anxieties of patients attending for scanning and follow up assessment and provide appropriate levels of reassurance.

To attend staff meetings to receive information and feedback

To deal with verbal complaints at a local level, and refer unresolved or written complaints to the Medical Imaging Manager

• To communicate in a concise and appropriate manner, highly complex information regarding examinations to clinicians and multidisciplinary teams, regarding diagnosis and/or treatment of patients.

• To promote good working relationships both between all staff within the Radiology Department and across multi-disciplinary teams.

Service Delivery and Improvement

Ensure the most efficient use of resources whilst ensuring service delivery.

To delegate where appropriate, responsibilities both professional and organisational to others in your charge.

To act as the Radiation Protection supervisor for the CT suite and to maintain high standards of radiation protection being aware of local rules and systems of work in each relevant area

Achieve and maintain the appropriate waiting time targets for diagnostic tests pertaining to the speciality in association with the Clinical Lead and Medical Imaging Manager

Offer clinical advice on imaging referrals and results to other radiographic staff and referring clinicians.

To independently assess and justify examinations under the IR(ME)R 2000 regulations using

department protocols when necessary.

To evaluate the clinical quality of the images produced within the area of expertise, to advise other Radiographic staff and to offer clinical advice to referring clinicians as indicated by departmental policies.

To bring to the attention of Radiography Manger any area of concerns regarding correct working of imaging equipment

To participate in the proper maintenance and cleanliness of all equipment as directed.

Responsible for implementation and recording of a QA programme, maintain good practices.

Evaluate and prepare reports on new equipment within your field of expertise

Ensure the implementation of examination protocols, regularly updating in liaison with the lead CT Consultant Radiologist.

Maintain a close working relationship with Portsmouth University, Centre of Radiographic Education and other outside professional bodies.

Fully participate as a key member of the management team within medical imaging.

People Management and Development

To ensure all Radiographers work to a continual high standard and understand all processes involved within CT, to improve efficiency and prevent clinical errors

Take responsibility for the day to day management of the CT scanner, including the radiographic and other support staff within CT scanning

Ensure effective staff communication and involvement so staff have the opportunity to be involved in and influence the planning and development of the service.

To take a lead role in training staff within CT

To participate in student radiographer training, taking part in the clinical instruction and assessment of students or trainees.

Provide clear, visible, responsive and professional leadership to all clinical and non-clinical staff in the service that maximises their effort and potential.

To assist in the development of a planned programme of continued professional development for all radiographic staff undertaking appraisal and setting Personal Development Plans and KSFs as required.

Demonstrate established negotiation skills in the management of conflict across a range of situations, including the resolution of complaints which may involve diffusion of hostility and aggression.

Actively promote a culture of openness, transparency and candour ensuring that any concern raised is treated seriously and dealt with promptly.

Develop robust workforce and training plans that support the services clinical strategy and annual plan in collaboration with the heads of department

Promote and implement robust human resource (HR) practices, as well as adherence to all Trust policies eg IG, IC, etc.

Ensure there are robust systems in place for receiving and acting on patient experience feedback.

Participate in the recruitment and retention process of staff as appropriate, effectively inducting new staff in accordance with the Trusts policy.

Patient Care Delivery

Maintain high standards of radiation protection being aware of local rules and systems of work in each relevant area

To have an understanding of the concerns and anxieties of patients attending for scanning and follow up assessment, and provide appropriate levels of reassurance

Facilitate improved patient safety and experience by actively contributing to processes in collaboration with the radiographers and other support staff

Conducting patient mapping processes in designated areas and streamlining and improving patient flows through the system in specific areas agreed with the CT Lead Radiographer

Learning and Development

Demonstrate accountability for own practice and take every reasonable opportunity to sustain and improve own knowledge and professional competence.

Attend mandatory training updates as required.

Undertake training as necessary in line with the development of the post and as agreed with the line manager as part of the personal development process.

Achieve and demonstrate agreed standards of personal and professional development within agreed timescales.

Identify own learning needs and jointly plan training requirements with your line manager

Participate in the Trusts appraisal process to discuss how your role will help deliver the best possible care to our patients and help to deliver any changes in service.
