Job summary
This role is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route however sponsorship can only be provided where applicants meet the specific requirements set by UKVI, including the relevant skill and salary thresholds, and any role-specific criteria. Applicants for the Senior HCA role must be able to evidence a minimum of 2 years' experience in the same role (Band 3 HCA within the NHS) to meet the salary requirements to qualify for sponsorship.
This is an opportunity for a kind, caring and motivated Senior Health Care Assistant with an interest in ENT and Maxillofacial, to join the Head and Neck Outpatient Nursing Team.
You will be supported in helping the nursing, and wider multi - disciplinary team in delivering care to our patients within this outpatient setting. Good communication skills and a patient centred approach are key requirements of the role
Main duties of the job
Contribute to implementing and progressing of a range of patient treatment and care programmes as delegated by a registered healthcare practitioner, and report back on progress. This may involve:
- asssisting medical staff in running clinics in ENT OPD, RACH OPD and Max-Fax OPD.
- setting up all the necessary equipment for the full range of clinics being run.
- running the early health screening clinic alongside a qualified nurse, including performing venepuncture.
- assisting medical and nursing staff during minor operations.
Participate as an active member of the healthcare team:
o organising own day-to-day work tasks (with support available)
o participating in ongoing training and development, and maintaining skills necessary for the role
o contributing to the smooth and efficient running of the service.
Provide day-to-day supervision and co-ordination of junior staff.

- Work within own level of assessed competence and participate actively in training and assessment; take personal responsibility for booking and participating in all statutory & mandatory training required for the role.
- Follow written policies, protocols/operating procedures, with support from registered healthcare practitioners available.
- Work at all times in a way that minimises the risk of infection (to patients and self) and maintains health, safety and security in line with established protocols (eg. hand hygiene, use of Personal Protective Equipment).

- Assess (through basic observations) patient health, safety & wellbeing before and while undertaking any activity or intervention, and respond accordingly.
- Provide concise, legible and accurate data and records of own work (handwritten and input to computer systems, eg. Electronic Patient Record).
- Carry out a range of patient care activities and ancillary duties as delegated/directed by a registered healthcare practitioner (following training and assessment of competence as required) and report back on progress/variances. Activities (summarised in the table below) include:
- patient support & personal care
- housekeeping
- core clinical support & technical services
- protocol-driven patient assessments implementing patient care administrativ
- Act as role model and advisor to less experienced staff, demonstrating and promoting the Trusts Values & Behaviours. These include: communicating effectively, working collaboratively, treating colleagues and patients/clients with kindness and understanding, and continuously improving.
- Provide day-to-day supervision and coordination of junior staff (eg. Band 2 Healthcare Assistants, apprentices, work experience students) and participate in local induction/orientation.
- Once assessed as competent in a particular skill, demonstrate those skills to less experienced staff, providing practical training and basic workplace assessments as required.
- As required, act as a liaison/point of contact with specialist teams and services (Link role), enhancing communication and collaborative working by attending meetings and keeping colleagues up-to-date (through face-to-face and written/electronic briefing).
- Attend and participate fully in team meetings.
- Take personal ownership in giving and receiving feedback; reinforce positive behaviours that reflect our values, and challenge undesirable behaviour constructively and with positive intent.
