Job summary
The Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital is seeking a passionate, experienced (ST4+ or equivalent) Trust Grade Doctor to join our team in Brighton for a fixed term of 12 months from October 2025.
This is a full-time role, including out of hours and on-call responsibilities as part of our bespoke, annualised rota. Candidates shall have the option to work 20% as an educational fellow and/or to work with either our Paediatric Epilepsy or Paediatric Endocrinology team in outpatient clinics as part of their day-time activities. Requests for less-than-full-time work shall be considered.
Shifts shall be split up between our Paediatric Medical Ward, Critical Care Unit, Medical Day-Case Unit, and specialist Children's Emergency Department, with attention given wherever possible, to the particular interests of the successful candidate.
The successful candidate will join our welcoming and dynamic team of 10 middle-grade clinical fellows, plus up to 10 middle-grade paediatric trainee (depending on the particular rotation). Candidates shall have access to the expertise of 19 sub-specialist services run locally from the Royal Alex, plus 4 additional sub-specialist services run in partnership with other hospitals.
Candidates must have completed foundation training (or equivalent) and have a minimum of two further years of paediatric experience. Full MRCPRCH should be held or close to behind held.
A full registration and licence to practice with the GMC is required of all applicants.
Main duties of the job
As a tier 2 Doctor in Paediatrics at The Alex, the post holder is responsible for the following:
Candidate will work closely with our team of Consultant Paediatricians and junior-grade doctors (including foundation year and general-practice trainees,) to deliver high-quality, specialist paediatric care to patients on a day-to-day basis. As a middle-grade clinical fellow, candidate will serve as a critical member of the in-patient care team across a variety of inpatient care locations. They shall assist consultant paediatricians in the supervision and supporting of more junior doctors, and serve as a senior decision maker during out-of-hours shifts.
A successful candidate will illustrate a keen clinical instinct for paediatric cases and the willingness and capability to flex into a variety of clinical settings, depending on the needs of the service.
In addition to the above clinical responsibilities, a successful candidate shall be expected to assist in the education of medical students from Brighton and Sussex Medical School, as well as more junior colleagues.
