Job summary
The Health Care Support Worker will be actively involved in the general organisation and daily running of the Pre-operative Assessment Service by taking direct role in patient care and administrative duties. Autonomous working in Pre-operative clinic and Pre admission area - monitoring patients baseline observations, routine screening, sample collection, Pre surgical preparation as well as supporting administrative tasks. Provision of direct patient care in support of and supervised directly & indirectly by a Registered Nurse.The purpose of the care is to:
Competently perform the necessary technical/invasive/physical aspects of the care for this defined patient group.
Competently perform the necessary administrative aspects of the Pre-operative Assessment Service, including preparing patients on the day of surgery.
Ensure an effective delivery of support is provided to patients/service and that an acceptable standard is maintained.
Provide, through Divisional policies, a safe environment for the treatment of patients and protection of staff.
Participate in Practice Development Programmes as required.
Main duties of the job
Supporting Pre-Operative Assessment of patients to a high standard ensuring patients are individually managed case by case and prepared for elective surgery in a safe and timely manner
Provide high quality evidence based clinical care and clear communication to patients, in line with the Trust Values and in accordance with professional regulation.
To act as a role model communicating in line with the Trust Values, to patients, carers and the staff at all times.
Accept delegated responsibility for specific activities/areas for the senior nurse in charge, recognising and working within the limits of your competence.
Take every opportunity to continue to maintain and develop your own practice.
