Physiotherapy Assistant Practitioner, Acute Admissions Team

Job summary

This role offers a great opportunity for support worker development with very different clinical experiences every day. We are looking for a dynamic individual to work within our front door service at St Richards Hospital. This person should be able to think on their feet, have experience with prioritising and discharge planning skills and is confident working in a positive risk taking environment and is able to assist with solving problems to get the best outcome for patients. You will do functional mobility assessments, advise and implement treatment and discharge plans for patients referred to the Front Door Service, including patients with varying medical, frailty, and orthopaedic presentations and complex social and psychological conditions. As our service develops, we are looking for a flexible and adaptable approach to ensure delivery of excellent therapy provision. Through expanding your scope of practice into some areas of Occupational Therapy this will also enable the continued delivery of an responsive and efficient single assessment model. Initially this role will initially be over Monday to Friday, but the service is moving towards a 7-day rota therefore, you will then be expected to work these hours over 7-days once this transition occurs.

Main duties of the job

o To provide assessment, treatment and discharge planning for a range of acute medical, orthopaedic and elderly frail patients referred to the Acute Admissions Team, Front Door therapy service, in accordance with national and local guidelines and standards.o To work in collaboration with the wider MDT and health professionals in both secondary and primary care.o To provide educational support to patients, carers, MDT and new physiotherapy staff to the emergency Floor.o To support the Team Leads and Band 6 and Band 5's.o To participate in CPD, IST, audit, evidence-based projects and service development projectso To be available to work across a seven-day period/rota if/when required.

Essential

  • Relevant theoretical and practical training at NVQ 3 or equivalent in Health & Social Care or related subject (e.g. degree)
  • Experience of working as a Band 3 within the therapy setting
  • Good general education including English and Mathematics

Desirable

  • Experience of working as a Band 3 in an inpatient setting
  • CPD portfolio of relevant learning and development

Skills

Essential

  • Experience working with individuals who have communication difficulties such as a hearing impairment or dementia.
  • Able to recognise and interpret key physiological and clinical information such as heart rate, blood pressure, and signs of deterioration in a patient's condition. Training will be provided on use of protocols in assessment of patients.
  • Basic computer skills including use of Microsoft publishing software such as Word and Excel.
  • Evidence of having undertaken own development to improve understanding of equalities issues

Desirable

  • Experience of working within defined parameters/protocols/ competency framework
