Develop and maintain effective working relationships with department and Trust colleagues and key relationships.

Responsible for overseeing effective staff involvement and communication strategies and working relationships within operations and creating a working environment that empowers staff to achieve optimal performance.
Communicate effectively and empathise with anxious and distressed patients and clients providing accurate information about contentious or sensitive issues.
Together with the Head of Breast Screening and Imaging Services and the Director / Deputy Director of Breast Screening provide patient contact point for problems or queries of a clinical nature
Ability to communicate highly complex information to patients, colleagues and staff
Ensure that work is ongoing to remove barriers to attending for and achieving a mammogram according to Trust Equality and Diversity Policy.
Manage complaints and grievances from staff and patients within the department.
Create and maintain effective partnerships and relationships with staff, patients and the general public.
Communicate complex, contentious and sensitive issues to staff and patients requiring tact and sensitivity.
Lead regular staff meetings to ensure effective two-way communication.
Encourage and participate in active feedback of ideas, concerns and suggestions to the appropriate level and in an appropriate forum.
Ensure all staff have access to the appropriate communication forum and are familiar with the Department, Breast Screening and Trust objectives and relevant Trust issues.
Maintain links with NHS England and other Superintendents through Local Programme Board Meetings and Regional Superintendent Meetings
Communicate with other professionals and team members through Multi-Disciplinary Team Meetings, to ensure a high-quality service is maintained for the patients and Screening Clients and a clear client/patient pathway is agreed.
Forge effective links to other departments within the Trust and external agencies.
Liaise with appropriate companies to ensure that servicing, maintenance and repairs of clinical equipment and mobile units are carried out according to department guidelines.
Liaise with the Procurement Team and Suppliers to negotiate the renewal of maintenance contracts for clinical equipment
A key member of the Breast Screening Senior Management Team which meets regularly to ensure the Service meets the standards required by the National Breast Screening Programme and the Trust.
Lead and support the department to achieve robust lines of authority, delegation and accountability within designated responsibility.
Demonstrable long term strategic planning, taking into account the overall aims and policies of the service
Source prospective sites and organise all arrangements for relocation and establishment of screening mobiles including facilitation with landlords, service providers, contractors and team, in conjunction with the Programme Manager.
Manage rostering of clinical team to deliver service at the Park Centre for Breast Care in Brighton, Princess Royal Hospital and across screening mobiles.
Ensure appropriate clinical staffing and equipment is available.
Responsible for the planning, procurement, evaluation and commissioning of clinical equipment and supplies.
Ensure that all staff participate in the range of procedures undertaken on different days, to maintain their competence and skills.
Ensure that all equipment is tested by the Medical Physics and be prepared for the Radiation Protection Inspections.
Support quality improvement initiatives that support departmental and divisional objectives, ensuring adherence to all Trust and NHSE standards and Protocols
Ensure there are robust internal systems in place within the service for receiving and acting on patient experience and feedback.
Liaise with the Head of Services and Director / Deputy Director of Breast Screening to respond to and meet changing needs within the Trust.
Keep updated on new developments in the clinical aspect of the Service to ensure we comply with evidence based best practice.
Work with the Programme Manager and Quality and Improvement Manager in supporting the ongoing development of the Quality Management System (QMS). Develop, implement, monitor and review clinical and non-clinical work processes, standards of practice, policies, procedures and protocols for the service are consistent with the integrated Breast Service.
Promote a fair and consistent approach for supervision and discipline of staff, utilising Trust Management Policies as appropriate.

Contribute and adhere to risk management procedures ensuring appropriate processes are in place and maintained with high quality record-keeping and regular reports.
Ensure comprehensive risk assessments are completed regularly and incidents are actively managed.
Support the investigation of complaints/incidents/PALS enquiries and near misses and that issues arising from the investigation are suitably addressed and also used as an opportunity for the team and service to improve and learn.
Ensure that incidents (including serious untoward incidents) are appropriately investigated and where necessary reports are provided.
Ensure robust systems of information management are in place within the service including filing structures, retention and destruction, in accordance with relevant policies and legislation, in conjunction with the Programme Manager
Ensure adequate preparation for audit by Screening Quality Assurance Service (SQAS).
Adhere and comply with IR(ME)R regulations, IRR17, HASAW regulations, COSHH and NHSBSP Guidelines.
Achieve and maintain a high standard of basic mammographic technique, supplementary and modified mammographic techniques and Tomosynthesis in both screening and symptomatic services and to work to current national standards and local protocols.
Ensure that the Breast Screening Team fits into an effective multi-disciplinary framework with appropriate resources
Be responsible for the consumable stock control necessary to support designated clinical areas, within the agreed financial limits.
Manage the selection, purchase and management of consumables for the service
Participate in the preparation of bids for capital equipment including high value/long term investment diagnostic imaging equipment and for revenue funding specific to the service as relevant
Negotiate contracts/maintenance in relation to equipment and screening mobile units.
Ensure all audits /reviews of the department and its performance are undertaken and action is taken to address any issues raised/recommendations.
Set up / perform / supervise clinical trials and audits as required.
Regularly conduct Mammographic Image Assessment / TR in line with NHSEI guidelines to maintain standards.
Participate in regular client satisfaction surveys and departmental audits as required by NHSBSP Quality Assurance Management.
Lead the Mammography team, trainees and Radiographic Assistants.
Manage conflict across a range of situations including management and resolution of complaints and concerns.
Lead the development of an enabling culture that supports others to succeed and flourish.
Lead the promotion of good staff engagement and satisfaction at all levels and maintain close working relationships in partnership with staff side, the Head of Breast Screening and Imaging, Director / Deputy Director of Breast Screening, and Programme Manager.

Responsible for performance management as a KPI measure, including appraisal and ensure personal development plans are in line with corporate and divisional objectives.
Support the development of robust workforce and training plans that support the service's clinical strategy and annual plan.
Continually monitor workforce plans to ensure the needs of the service are met and staff is able to extend roles for the benefit of the service and the individual.
Promote and implement robust human resource (HR) practices as well as adherence to all Trust policies.
Facilitate recruitment and retention process of staff as appropriate, effectively inducting new staff in accordance with Trust policy.
Monitor levels and standards of performance, staff conduct, standards of behaviour, appearance and staff attendance as appropriate ensuring these matters are dealt with effectively in accordance with Trust policy and legislation.
Ensure all statutory and mandatory training requirements are achieved.
Ensure that designated staff groups within the service are working to competencies which are regularly assessed and appropriate to the standards expected in line with Agenda for Change and the Knowledge and Skills Framework.
Responsible for the management of Health and Well Being of mammographic staff within the breast screening and symptomatic mammography departments including recruitment, selection and induction, sickness absence and training and development needs according to relevant Trust Policies.
