PACS and Radiology Support Analyst

Job summary

This key role within the PACS team provides a high quality, comprehensive and efficient administration support service to all imaging system users. The post holder will utilise excellent time management, organisational and communication skills and an adaptable, flexible approach to produce work of a high standard focusing on being the first point of contact for all PACS queries received by telephone and email from across the Trust.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for managing all requests to send, and receive, imaging from UHS to all other hospitals across the country and will be required to produce accurate reports using data from the Imaging Radiology Systems.

This is a busy, high paced role and the post holder will be calm and able to work well under pressure.

It is important for the post holder to have previous experience and be confident using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook and have previously worked on bespoke IT systems. Full training will be given on the PACS/RIS systems but previous experience using these systems would be beneficial.

    • Monitoring and dealing with all PACS queries received by phone and email
    • Extracting data from the PACS/RIS systems to Radiology data management
    • Day-to-day administration of the CRIS and PACS systems
    • Basic statistical analyses
    • Production of regular formal and informal reports

Job responsibilities

To be the central point of contact for the administration of PACS/CRIS.

Monitoring and dealing with all PACS queries received by phone and email

Be responsible for monitoring the PACS Enquiries email inbox, deciding the urgency of all requests / queries and actioning as appropriate.

Use the Image Exchange Portal (IEP) to manage and support image exchange with external organisations.

Frequently liaising with IT and suppliers for system support.

Develop a high level knowledge of the PACS/RIS System and using this to troubleshoot in times of system downtime.

Configure and trouble shoot connections between imaging equipment and the PACS/RIS

Using a good level of knowledge of PCs, networks and MS Windows to be able to advise Trust staff on the most appropriate way to use the Imaging systems.

Supporting radiologists to enable a high quality and stable reporting environment.

Be able to deliver CRIS and PACS training to staff of all levels and disseminate knowledge to address the requirements of a range of system users.

Create CDs copies of patient images to be used for multi-disciplinary meetings/case studies and to be sent to neighbouring Trusts and organisations.

Run audits to monitor inputting errors on CRIS to ensure consistent correct information is stored and used.

Administer system access which includes the provision of User ID and passwords to acceptable users following training, keeping full records of all training provided.

To act as an advocate for, and to promote best practice in regard to CRIS.

To be involved in the creation of new ways of working related to CRIS and PACS and their interaction with other clinical and hospital computer systems.

Travel between sites may be required at times and as necessary.

To assist with the administration of working procedures which will be implemented during periods of planned and unplanned system downtime and promote practices to minimise the need for system downtime.

Ensure that the CRIS and PACS databases are updated and synchronised as soon as possible after the resumption of normal service following downtime.

Administer processes to maintain Data Integrity.

Participate in System Testing and training for subsequent upgrades.

Provide direct technical knowledge on CRIS/PACS problem solving.

Comply with all Trust and Radiology Department protocols, procedures and guidelines.
