Job summary
We have a rare and exciting opportunity for a Registered Nursing Associate role on the Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment (SACT) units, working primarily at the Hurstwood Park Haematology/Oncology unit at Princess Royal Hospital, with also some of the time spent at the Sussex Cancer Centre at Royal Sussex County Hospital. We are looking for someone who strives for high standards of patient care to join our friendly, dedicated and highly professional team. This would involve being an integral part of the ongoing development, implementation and improvement of venesection clinics for patients with haemochromatosis and polycythaemia & running the PICC line clinic. These take place at our unit at Princess Royal Hospital, with the potential for additional clinical duties taking place at the Sussex Cancer Centre, both on our SACT unit floor and in the Sussex Cancer Centre Outpatient Department.
The post requires you have skills in venepuncture, cannulation and good communication.

Main duties of the job
Take personal responsibility for ensuring that patients are treated with courtesy at all times, their individual needs are respected, and confidentiality is maintained at all times.
Provide high quality patient care, appropriate to patient needs. Be responsible for a group of patients under the supervision of a registered practitioner.
Under supervision of the registered practitioner, complete patient assessment, plan and implement the care, evaluating its effectiveness whilst ensuring high standards of patient care.
Under supervision of registered practitioner use knowledge and skills to make judgements on effectiveness of programmes of care, discussing changes that might effect improvements for the patient.
Undertake and interpret a range of patient observations as required in the clinical area, for example, NEWS e.g temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, neurological observations, oxygen saturation levels, and blood glucose.
Obtain requested specimens. Ensure transportation to appropriate department and that correct documentation is completed.
Obtain routine/ specialist bloods and performs investigations if required within area of work. Using an understanding of normal and altered values, report adverse results.
Assist with basic and, where agreed, intermediate cardio-pulmonary resuscitation procedures.
Undertake Picc Line dressing, take blood and flush lines with sodium chloride following appropriate training

- Recent experience in a health care setting
