Job summary
The role will support the delivery of a high quality breast imaging service across both screening and symptomatic pathways, working across static and mobile units.
As a Senior Mammographer, you will contribute to service development, clinical supervision, and the ongoing delivery of safe, efficient, and patient centred imaging. You will be expected to work autonomously and demonstrate advanced clinical competency in all aspects of mammography, including interventional and assessment procedures, while supporting junior staff and acting as a clinical role model.
This post is for experienced mammographers suitable for appointment at Band 7. Mammographers with less than one year of post-qualification experience will be considered for appointment at Band 6, with progression to Band 7 upon meeting the required experience and competency criteria.
Trainee mammographers (Band 5) will also be considered, with full training and support provided. Trainees will progress to Band 6 upon qualification and demonstration of core competencies, and later to Band 7 when experience and advanced skills are achieved.
Main duties of the job
Provide an exceptionally high level of expertise in the specialist clinical field of breast imaging in a screening and symptomatic environment.
Work as part of the mammographic multi-disciplinary team, performing radiographic imaging of the breast and providing a professional service of the highest quality in line with the standards and guidelines set out by the NHSBSP for screening clients and symptomatic patients of WSHT across the mobile and static units.
Work autonomously and perform the full range of additional specialised mammographic techniques during assessment clinics, including the imaging of breast specimens, tomosynthesis, stereotactic procedures and localisations.
Provide mentorship, supervision and training to trainee mammographers and assistant practitioners within the service.
Provide departmental support and lead the team members through knowledge and experience.
