Operating Department Orderly

Job summary

To work as an integrated member of the operating theatre team.To assist staff in the movement and positioning of equipment.To relay specimens when required.To respond rapidly to urgent requests.To ensure the safe transportation of patients to and from the departmentand within the department.To ensure the clean and safe conditions of theatres before, after and inbetween cases.Preparation and tidying of stores in theatres and the theatre unit.

Main duties of the job

To work along side the multidisciplinary team in assisting on the smooth running of the 8 Operating Theatres and one obstetric theatre, being able to be flexible and change jobs if needed by emergency situations and respond to needs of the Operating staff.

  • Throughout the day to safely transport patients between the wards and the Operating Department, assist in moving medical and surgical equipment to wards and departments.
  • to move dirty and clean instrument trolleys within the theatre and S.S.D complex.
  • to maintain equipment and report faults to senior staff.
  • To collect blood and associated products and specimens to correct places.
  • Cleaning equipment, putting away all stores and SSD supplies. Order and maintain stock including sunlight drapes.
  • To ensure the safe and correct disposal of all rubbish and fluid bags/boxes.
  • To assist in the ordering storing and distribution of IV fluids for Pharmacy.
