Emergency Department Technologist

Job summary

The Department technologist will assist with stores, ordering and maintenance of equipment. They will ensure all equipment is in good working order, reporting the equipment as required, including, but not limited to:ultrasound, bladder scanner, ECG Machine, Dinamap and cardiac monitors.

The technologist will ensure that stock is unpacked and correctly stored. They will replace any equipment used during emergency situations to ensure safety within the department.

They will escalate any issues with equipment or stock at the earliest opportunity and order replacements as appropriate.

Main duties of the job

To maintain all of the Emergency Department (ED) storage and keep in a clean and tidy condition. This includes but not restricted to: Emergency Department (ED) Resus; Ambulatory Clinical Decision Unit (ACDU), Majors and PAT.

To monitor, receive and unpack stock into allocated areas.

To ensure all necessary statutory check documentation is maintained.

To ensure equipment is decontaminated/calibrated and ready for use.

To contribute to the smooth running of the Emergency Department.

Support alternative ways of working, particularly where the need for change cannot be easily identified.

The post holder is required to wear a uniform.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Responsible for the daily prioritisation of work adhering to the Daily/Weekly Task Sheet.

1. Manage stock received and put away making sure current stock is rotated.

2. Ensuring discrepancies are immediately reported and assisting with NHS Supplies to then make sure ordering of stock is correct.

3. Ensure that all equipment is in good working order and is returned back when borrowed. This will include but is not limited to monitoring equipment, ultrasound, bladder scanner, ECG Machine, Dinamap and cardiac monitors.

4. Ensure there are an adequate number of Evo/Alaris pumps available for the Emergency Department. Contact Equipment Library if pumps required.

5. Ensure that daily decontamination checks on the technical equipment are undertaken across the whole department.

6. Ensure cleaning rotas for trolleys and storerooms are carried out and documentation completed.

7. Ensure all stock trolleys in the Emergency Department are topped up at least daily.

8. To be able to assist when called upon to get a treatment space ready for the next patient, ensuring no delays in patient flow.

9. Maintain near patient testing equipment stocks and supplies, ensuring the prompt reporting of issues to Lead Support Worker or POCT team.

10. Ensure all storage areas are cleaned and kept tidy

11. Demonstrate an awareness of your own role within a major Incident and when the Trust is in business continuity.

12. Carry out any other reasonable duties commensurate with the role and delegated or requested by the manager or supervisor, as the needs of the service require.

13. Carry out daily checks on stock, responsible for ensuring necessary action is taken so an acceptable level of stock is available and ordering replacement stock as required.

14. Complete daily checklist reporting any issues to Lead Support Worker or Shift Leader.

15. The job description and person specification may be reviewed on an ongoing basis in accordance with the changing needs of the Department and the Organisation.

16. Ensure that there are enough oxygen/entonox cylinders in the Emergency Department.

17.Call the helpdesk for any estates related queries.

18. Ensure clinical rooms are stocked

19. Assist nursing staff as required.

20. Carry out minor repairs to equipment

21. Any other tasks that are relevant to role
