Trust Doctor (CT1/2 Equivalent) in Trauma & Orthopaedics

Job summary

The successful trainee is expected to provide day to day care for in-patients on the wards, HDU and ITU. They should see all their patients prior to surgery and, whenever possible, should be in theatre to assist and be taught. In out-patients, they will see new patients under the supervision of a consultant and will be expected to present cases to the consultant and discuss future management.At present a full shift system is in operation. There are daily, post-take, consultant led ward rounds and the outgoing night time trainee and the incoming day time trainee are expected to be present. This allows for hand-over and for cases to be presented to the consultant. The trainee will undertake either Friday/Saturday/Sunday nightshifts or weekday nightshifts within a rota. The daytime long days are undertaken on a rolling rota. Whilst on-call, the Junior Doctors primary commitment is to emergency admissions.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will also arrange the admissions and initial management of trauma patients.The twelve Orthopaedic Consultants at St Richards Hospital hold Out-Patients and Fracture Clinics and admit trauma patients to St Richards Hospital and elective and rehabilitation patients. Consultants hold daily Fracture Clinics and there are Plaster Room facilities and technicians and full x-ray facilities and secretarial support at both hospitals. The CT and MRI Scanners are at St Richards Hospital The department is computerised using PACS radiology.The job carries an on-call commitment for the review and admission of orthopaedic and urology patients via A&E and direct GP referral, urology part is supported by Urology Registrar on site 8 am to 10 pm and offsite 10pm to 8am.
