Hepatology Clinical Nurse Specialist

Job summary

The Hepatology Nurse Specialist (CNS) will provide a highly specialist nursing contribution to the clinical management and education of patients referred to the hepatology service, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, across hospital settings.

We are looking to 2 posts - 1 for St Richards and 1 for Worthing, these nurses will form part of the new liver services expansion at these sites, working closely with the Hepatology consultants.

Starting band will be dependant on training and experience within the field of Hepatology.

Main duties of the job

They will act as a clinical expert within the field of hepatology, as well as a role model to others, demonstrating high standards of quality care, facilitation, and clinical leadership provision.

Responsible for leading the service for the relevant site within the trust- ensuring the service is uniform on all sites and follows the same vision/guidelines, implementing national strategies at a local level, contributing towards strategic decision making and implementing policies appropriate to the specialty.

Provide expert clinical advice and education to patients & support groups, promoting a culture that supports self-management, health and wellbeing.

Providing a helpline service to outpatients, who may be experiencing difficulties, hence also averting admissions where appropriate.

Delivering outpatient clinics in Hepatology, undertaking Fibro scan (subject to training) and overseeing paracentesis pathways.

Delivering specialist education and training to other professionals involved in patient care.

Delivering clinical review and CNS contact for inpatients with Hepatology requirements.

Leading on The Improving Quality in Liver Services (IQILS) accreditation programme, supporting quality improvement in liver services in the UK.
