Job summary
- To develop speciali To develop specialist Glaucoma skills set, knowledge and experience, clinical excellence, leadership, innovation and mastery within the Ophthalmology department.
- To undertake highly specialist Glaucoma nurse practitioner training
- The post-holder will have responsibility and accountability for supporting a caseload of Ophthalmology patients and acting as the patient's advocate
- To be trained to assess and treat where appropriate patients with complex eye needs
- When trained and assessed as competent to work autonomously with the support and guidance of the Glaucoma Consultant and other Glaucoma specialists' team and the multi-disciplinary team
- To assist in the development and innovation of the Glaucoma service delivery within Ophthalmology and support of MDT, nursing, and allied health professionals
- To support and have active involvement in Ophthalmology MDT meetings, audit, patient experience surveys and research initiatives, and service development with focus on patients with Glaucoma and to support the implementation of the GIRFT initiative.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be trained to manage their own case load of glaucoma patients, dealing with the delivery of often sensitive and complex issues. They will also be trained to discuss the various treatment options to seek consent for treatment providing empathy and reassurance

To be trained to assess patients with glaucoma and respond appropriately, making difficult decisions daily with the guidance and support of the Glaucoma medical team and other MDT with expert knowledge in Glaucoma. Providing specialist advice to the patient regarding their options and appropriate actions to manage their conditions
To develop physical examination skills or any relevant skills as identified by the Glaucoma Consultant during this development programme
Using practical and professional experience to facilitate evidence-based practice led care
