Job summary

Responsible for providing all aspects of clinical photography for diagnosis, case records, education, research and publication.

Responsible for providing a general photographic support service for patient information, research, publication, education and public relations.

The post holder is jointly responsible for the recruitment and development of staff within CMC and supervising the clinical photographic staff and admin support on a daily basis. To deputise for the Head of CMC in their absence.

To assist in the development of the clinical photographic service internally and with external commissioning providers.

To support in the design and setting of standards for clinical and non-clinical photography across University Hospitals Sussex, with continuing responsibility for delivery of high quality photographic work to clients' specifications and deadlines, ensuring client satisfaction.

Main duties of the job

  • Undertakes Clinical Photography of patients using standardised representational photographic techniques for diagnostic, records, teaching, publication and research purposes, in clinics, in the studio, in operating theatres, mortuary and on the wards, ensuring patient safety and wellbeing whilst in their care.
  • Is responsible for ensuring the quality of all photography produced within the department is of a highly professional nature, that the condition has been accurately interpreted and the appropriate equipment and correct lighting technique has been used to ensure it is medically and legally valuable. Leads image quality assurance sessions with Clinical Photographers.
  • Undertakes photography for non-accidental injury and Child Protection including the requirements to provide police statements and to appear in a court of law if required.
  • To work with the Head of CMC and other senior staff on the current development and promotion of services across University Hospitals Sussex.
  • To run and process telederm clinics accross all UHSussex sites.
  • To be lead photographer on off site clinics assisting junior staff members.
  • Regularly interacts with patients, carers and relatives who may have varying levels of ability to understand or whose first language is not English.
  • Provides and receives complicated and sensitive information, and gives explanations and instructions clearly and concisely where barriers to communication may exist
