Fellowship in Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery
Structured specialist training in Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery. This post is designed to be a stepping-stone towards consultant career.
The full-time role is 48 hours per week and attracts a 1B (40%) pay banding.
We are looking for an enthusiastic team-player who would like to increase their knowledge and skills around in their chosen subspecialty area of trauma and orthopaedic surgery. To get maximum benefit, they should already be competent at routine hand, hip or knee surgery as dictated by the role. They must have current ATLS and should have FRCS (Tr and Orth). Post holders with CCT may be given some independent operating lists.

Main duties of the job
Paediatric Orthopaedic Fellowship Post
Our Senior Fellow Posts are all full-time posts at 48 hours per week; this includes CPD time for research and quality improvement projects as well as traditional teaching. The post holder will have limited on-call duties at the Level 1 MTC at RSCH and will therefore be expected to be up to date with the management of complex trauma. Possession of FRCS (T&O) and ATLS is a requirement for the post.
About us
The paediatric trauma workload is based at the Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital and involves a twice a week trauma list and twice a week paediatric fracture clinic and paediatric virtual fracture clinic. The successful candidate may have the opportunity to gain experience as the consultant on call for paediatric orthopaedics.

The clinical duties of the post include the following:
- Day to Day Care of Paediatric Orthopaedic Inpatients
- Supervised surgical care in paediatric elective and trauma list (expected to function at a senior level)
- Supervised participation in outpatient elective, specialist clinic and fracture clinics
- Department activities including teaching and training, MDT, audit & governance meetings, research.
- On Call Commitment: The new appointment will be expected to participate in the adult and paediatric trauma on call registrar rota at the Royal Sussex County hospital as part of the bespoke rota explained in the introduction section.

- Postgraduate qualification or appropriate specialist qualification
- Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
- Valid Advanced Trauma Life Support Certificate (ATLS)
