University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust (279)

Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for posts within the General and Elderly Medicine departments from 2 August 2023 for a period of 12 months covering vacant deanery posts. Applicants who wish to work for 4-month, 6 month or 8-month placements will also be considered. Earlier start dates could also be accommodated.
Ideally you have decided on Medicine as your preferred career. You will have an active interest in improving the quality care provided to patients within the Trust. You will be capable of managing projects both independently and under supervision and be skilled at team working. Regular supervision meetings with an experienced training Consultant will help you shape your future career.
These roles have been developed to provide the time and flexibility required to develop into the doctor you want to be. The posts are also intended to provide something positive to the Trust in terms of service or educational development.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will be able to specify a preference for the clinical team they are part of and whether to change each 4 months or be attached to the same team for the year. This will be influenced by where the vacancies are within the Trust.
The successful applicant will be comfortable assessing and initiating management of cases presenting to the Trust, including an active, preferably leading role in cardiac arrest teams (with supervision). It is expected the post-holder will act as a role model for the medical students and junior doctors will have excellent clinical acumen, good communication skills, initiative, and leadership.
All doctors will be encouraged to participate actively in departmental audits and educational audits will be supported.
In Chichester, the acute medical, medicine for the elderly and rheumatology services are fully integrated, with all specialties taking part in the acute general medical rota. There is a separate rota pattern on the Emergency Floor.
In Worthing, there are separate medicine and elderly medicine full shift rota patterns.
Duties of the CT1-2s in each team will include supervision of the FY1 doctor and the management of acute medical admissions and subsequent in-patient care on the wards.
The main role of the postholder in all clinical areas is the general organisation of the day to day running of the ward (clerking patients, arranging, and collating investigations and note keeping).
