Job summary
We are recruiting a 10PA Consultant Paediatrician to join our team to be based at Worthing Hospital. An interest in Paediatric Epilepsy is preferred. However those with a willingness to train in this field or with special interests complimentary to those of the existing team may be considered. As a General Paediatric Consultant you will be responsible for delivering high quality paediatric care to neonates, children, and young people within the outpatient and inpatient settings in the Worthing area. A successful candidate with expertise in Epilepsy will take the lead in delivering Epilepsy care to children for WGH working collaboratively with the Epilepsy specialist nurses.
We are looking for an engaging and enthusiastic professional, who is fully committed to the ideals of the RCPCH and the values of our UHSussex Trust. Potential candidates should be keen to drive forward standards and work with a motivated multidisciplinary team including consultants, junior doctors, nurses, midwives, physiotherapists, dieticians and other members of tertiary specialist services either within the Trust or from Tertiary referral centres.
Main duties of the job
The job plan will be based on 10 PAs to include 1.5 SPA. This will be worked flexibly over a seven day working week. This role inludes resident consultant on call work contributing to the tier 2 rota as detailed in the job description and a contribution to the non resident consultant on call rota. The Consultant will undertake regular outpatient clinics in both general paediatrics and Epilepsy - the latter supported by an epilepsy specialist nurse. The successful candidate will participate in the Consultant of the week rota 1:10 leading the clinical team and overseeing the general paediatric ward, level 1 Neonatal unit, postnatal ward and Children's day unit. There will be opportunities to develop management and leadership qualities as well as an opportunities to teach to our enthusiastic junior doctors and medical students and to participate in research.

Non-resident on-call weekdays 5pm to 9am, weekends 48hrs Saturday to Monday 9am-9am
Carry out ward rounds on weekends followed by non-resident on-call from home.
To be available to attend from home for clinical reasons, and to be contacted over the phone for clinical and operational advice.
To provide support and guidance to the resident paediatric junior doctors and nurses
Weekday on call frequency currently 1:15, weekend frequency 1:18.
Resident on call consultant work
26 resident night shifts per year contributing to the tier 2 rota
3 resident weekends working long days contributing to the tier 2 rota.
General Paediatric & Epilepsy outpatient work. Undertaking triage of outpatient referrals and responding to advice & guidance requests from primary care.
