Vascular Access & OPAT Support Worker

Job summary

The post holder will be assisting registered staff with procedures where appropriate ensuring strict surgical asepsis is maintained, all equipment is available and fully functional as well as providing support to services users undergoing clinical interventions.

Furthermore the post holder will maintain clinical stock levels ensuring the correct equipment is available to fulfil all the team's duties, including for training and education purposes.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be part of a specialist nursing team providing expert patient care within the Trust. They will work towards improving communication with teams across BSUH by supporting clinical staff in referral of appropriate patients to the OPAT service, further they will work closely with flow co-ordinators across the trust improving the quality of referral & assessment paperwork for this group of patients.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Administrative

  • To become familiar with computerised OPAT patient management systems integral to the running of the service
  • Build a working relationship with relevant teams across the trust specifically in areas identified to require support with assessment referral process
  • Accurate and safe record keeping across all platforms used by the team
  • Updating of database in which all relevant teaching/ support is logged

Audit and Research

  • To be involved in the development of audit tools and the collection, analysis, publication and dissemination of audit data/results in conjunction with any relevant teams to evaluate IV Team & OPAT service using the appropriate IT equipment.

Communication

  • Distribution of written and verbal communications accurately and in accordance to The Trusts policies
  • Communicating and co-operating with wards, departments and clinical services giving accurate information as required
  • Advise staff about IV Team and OPAT service

Management

  • To be able to prioritise own work load and work unsupervised to meet agreed deadlines
  • Maintaining and monitoring a safe and clean environment within the clinical area in accordance with the Trust Health and Safety, Clinical Risk and Infection Control Policies
  • Maintaining and monitoring levels of stock and ensuring there are adequate supplies and that resources are used effectively
  • Work collaboratively to produce and implement policies and standard operating procedures for IV Therapy and OPAT, liaising with staff and working closely and effectively with them
  • Committed to achieving corporate objectives of the Trus

Personal and Professional Development

  • Be personally accountable for their practice and takes every reasonable opportunity to sustain and improve their knowledge and professional competence
