We are excited to invite candidates to apply for the position of Clinical Fellow in Critical Care Medicine at University Hospitals Sussex East.
This is an excellent opportunity for those with an interest in critical care to build up their clinical experience and to build up CVs.
The Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton is recognised for FICM training at all levels of intensive care medicine.
Main duties of the job
The clinical duties of the post include the following:
- The Critical Care trainee must ensure that patients are managed in a timely and appropriate way in all aspects of critical care: resuscitation, stabilisation, working diagnosis, adequate monitoring, treatment, and discharge.
- Proficient in detailed handover of complex patients.
- Prompt assessment of the critically ill patients referred to ICU.
- The trainees will help lead the daily consultant ward round of all admissions.
- Coordinate and evaluate the suitability for admission to ICU in consultation with the ICU Consultant.
- Adequate documentation.
- Communicate regularly with patients' relatives.
- Identifying patients suitable for discharge and liaise with ward teams.
- Work closely with the Outreach Team, reviewing and manage unstable patients on the ward.
- Teaching and training of junior trainees and medical students
Additional time can be allocated from within clinical hours to support clinical fellow projects in education and SIM, research, leadership, and any other projects depending on personal interests.
About us
The University Hospitals Sussex East Critical Care Service manages 43 level 2-3 Intensive Care beds. It admits around 3600 patients a year, 40% medical and 60% surgical (including Cardiac and Neurosurgery). From this summer we will be in a brand new purpose-built unit at the Royal Sussex County Hospital with excellent teaching facilities including a SIM suite built within the critical care unit.
