Cancer Services at the Royal Sussex County Hospital are proud to offer an exciting opportunity for Band 5 staff nurses to apply for our 18 month rotational programme. The rotation is an option for both newly qualified nurses and experienced nurses who wish to gain knowledge, understanding and progress within the specialised field of haematology/oncology nursing in a large tertiary centre.

Throughout the programme you will gain a host of specialist clinical skills applicable to each rotational area with a planned pathway and competencies to complete. This is a fantastic opportunity if you would like to gain an insight into our haematology/oncology services and gain skills and experience for future career opportunities. After the end of the rotation you will continue in the Cancer Service as a Band 5 and have opportunities to progress to Band 6.

In each rotation you will have a supernumerary period to orientate you to the location and a personal development plan, mentor and practice educators to help support and guide you.

If you are applying for this job and are already SACT Trained, we will consider an option of a permanent place on the SACT Unit if requested at interview.

They will be participating in nurse led services, including the satellite Haematology/Oncology unit at the Princess Royal Hospital.

The post holder will spend Nine months working in the inpatient Haematology/Oncology Ward and Day Unit, where again they will take part in the administration of SACT. They will learn about haematological malignancies and non-malignancies, their specific treatments and care, this will include the care of patients pre and post-transplant. They will gain specialist knowledge in the administration of blood products.

The post holder will learn about disease related symptom and treatment related symptom management. They will learn about high-standards of end-of-life care and spend time with other cancer specialist services including clinical nurse specialists, ACPs, the palliative care and the acute oncology teams.
