Job summary
We are offering an exciting opportunity for a Nurse to take on the role of Children's Safeguarding and Liaison Nurse within the Children's Safeguarding team at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust.
This role provides an opportunity to join a small but busy acute based hospital safeguarding children team. This role includes providing oversight and liaison of children's attendances to A&E ensuring that children are effectively safeguarded as well as delivering clinical supervision for staff and safeguarding children training.
To succeed you will need to be flexible, assertive, a strong team player and be able to demonstrate an understanding of children and working with families with safeguarding issues within a busy acute hospital and wider health economy.The role encompasses promoting a positive culture of safeguarding to ensure it is part of everyday practice and there is effective two-way communication between community services and partner agencies in order to support and protect the community we serve.
This post is 37.5hrs, working 5 days (Monday-Friday) however part time hours/job shares will be considered. The role will be primarily based at one hospital site (Worthing Hospital or St. Richard's Hospital), with cross site working a requirement in order to meet the needs of the service. You must be a registered as a qualified Nurse, Midwife or Specialist Community Public Health Nurse.
Main duties of the job
- To ensure the highest standards of safeguarding and paediatric Liaison practice are delivered to the children and their families in partnership with all members of the internal and external multidisciplinary team.
- To have responsibility for identifying paediatric attendances that require liaison with members of the acute and community team, within the parameters of liaison and information sharing guidance.
- To be knowledgeable and to be accountable in practice in accordance with 'The Code professional standards of practice for nurses and midwives (NMC 2018), Safeguarding Children & Young People: Roles and Competencies for Health Care Staff (2019) and Looked after Children: roles and competencies of healthcare staff (December 2020).
- To work alongside the Named Nurse, Named Doctor, Paediatricians, Clinical Staff, A&E Leads and Specialist professionals in issues relating to Safeguarding Children
- To foster and maintain excellent communication links with other external agencies and professionals in relation to paediatric liaison and safeguarding children.
- To remain up to date and compliant with all organisational procedures, policies and in accordance with statutory guidance for safeguarding children and uphold standards of best practice.
