We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed doctor to join the HIV/Sexual Health &Contraception team in Brighton - the first UK fast track city. This is a full-time post for 6 months from February 2024.
This post is based at The Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, part of University Hospitals Sussex. The post holder will be expected to staff Sexual Health & Contraception outpatient clinics, and HIV emergency clinics if suitably experienced and for periods of time provide medical care to inpatients in The Sussex Beacon. The HIV/Sexual Health department currently has a cohort of over 2,400 patients with HIV and sees approximately 34,000 attendances in the fully integrated Sexual health service per year and is a major centre for clinical research in HIV and Sexual Health. The Sussex Beacon has a 10 bedded inpatient unit serving patients living with HIV in B&H, East & west Sussex. This is an ideal opportunity to gain experience in this dynamic specialty
Main duties of the job
The post will be based in the SHAC department at The Royal Sussex County Hospital and the Morley St clinic in central Brighton with some time spent at The Sussex beacon.
The timetable will be flexible and varied. The post holder will be staffing the fully integrated Sexual Health and Contraception clinics. These operate from two sites, daily booked clinics at the Claude Nicol clinic at RSCH and a 'walk in appointment on the day' clinic at Morley St in central Brighton.At times the post holder will be based at The Sussex Beacon where the post holder will be required to clerk patients being admitted to the medical unit and provide their ongoing medical care. They will work closely with the nursing team. A formal consultant ward round occurs weekly, but consultant/SpR support is available daily.
The Sexual health clinics are run on a senior medical model supporting an MDT of specialty & junior medical Drs, a mix of Band 5-7 nurses, health care assistants and Band 6/7 health advisers. Staff see patients according to their level of experience.
LARC clinics run daily and there are dedicated young persons, MSM, sexual assault and chronic problems clinics. Dependent on experience there would be the opportunity to manage HIV patients in the daily emergency, virtual or routine booked clinics and to run LARC clinics.

Brighton and Hove - Sexual Health & Contraception (SHAC)
Sexual health & contraceptive services joined in 2015 and now provide a fully integrated service across the city from 2 main hubs: The Claude Nicol Centre at the RSCH site for all booked appointments and Morley St in central Brighton providing a daily walk in and book on the day service. A nurse delivered satellite service for <25s operates every afternoon in the west of the city. The service sees approximately 34,000 attendances a year and in addition to routine clinics runs dedicated clinics for young people, for gay and bisexual men (Clinic M) and for Trans people (Clinic T) as well as specialist clinics for PrEP provision, for individuals with chronic genital problems, complex contraception including deep implant removals and for care post sexual assault.
Alongside the clinics the service provides a successful Chlamydia Screening programme to the city and provides an in house digital online home sampling service.
There is a strong sexual health network across Brighton and Hove led by the Local Authority. All organizations providing sexual health and HIV prevention services contribute and are represented on the Sexual Health Programme Board. This includes SHAC, THT, Chlamydia Screening, Community HIV services, the Sussex Beacon, Drug and Alcohol services, working & drug using women (OASIS), and GPs offering a locally enhanced
