Job summary

We currently have exciting opportunities to join our highly motivated and dedicated team of Housekeeping Assistants at the Princess Royal Hospital, roles are full time 07:30 to 15:30 or 14:00 to 22:00, 5 days a week and Part time 17:00 to 22:00 Monday to Friday and Bank work is considered.

We are looking for individuals with a proven track record of delivering high quality work, whilst ensuring courtesy and efficiency towards patients, colleagues and visitors at all times.

Main duties of the job

To maintain a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness, as defined in the National Standards of Cleanliness, in all areas of responsibility.

To ensure Infection Prevention and Control guidelines are adhered to.

The Post Holder will be required to ensure personal conduct is at the highest standard while on the hospital premises, exhibiting courtesy and efficiency to patients, visitors and users of the service at all times.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  1. To ensure the cleanliness of the area you have been assigned to under the direction of your manager. This will include cleaning areas such as corridors, offices, stairs, toilets, bathrooms, and patient bed spaces on a frequent basis using a variety of tasks and procedures including the dusting of all horizontal and vertical surfaces, high and low level cleaning, replenishment of disposable items, emptying, cleaning and re-lining of waste bins and deep cleans (where applicable).
  2. To adhere to all aspects of Control of Infection & Prevention procedures including the use of colour coded equipment to ensure there is no spread of infection.
  3. Comply with National Cleaning Standards and the required cleaning frequencies as per the work schedules provided.
  4. Removal of rubbish from ward/department areas to the designated collection points, ensuring the correct disposal of Clinical and Domestic waste in line with the Trusts Policy.
  5. General floor scrubbing and floor maintenance according to agreed frequencies and guidelines
  6. Ensure the correct use of chemicals making sure the handling, storage and safe usage are in line with COSHH regulations, safety data sheets and training given.
  7. To ensure that all cleaning equipment (including electrical) is kept clean and maintained in good working order.
  8. Reporting of equipment breakdown, faults with the building fabric or hazardous occurrences to Line Manager.
  9. Attend all training sessions and complete competency tests as appropriate
  10. To ensure that all work is carried out in strict accordance with the manual handling training received to ensure your personal health and safety and that of others.
  11. To ensure that all tasks are completed using the risk assessments and safe systems of work as instructed by your manager.
  12. Responsible for ensuring the security of stock and that cleaning cupboards are kept clean and tidy. Adherence to Trust standards regarding uniform, conduct and the wearing of Personal Protective Equipment
  13. To ensure patients privacy and dignity is maintained throughout your work.
  14. To respond to any actions that may arise from cleaning audits.
  15. Carry out reasonable duties as required and co-operate fully when new methods of work or frequencies of cleaning are introduced.
