University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust is seeking enthusiastic, hardworking and committed individuals, who are able to work in a team and as an individual on own initiative.

You will be complimenting existing security teams based in the busy environment of the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton.

Working in our purpose built Control Room at the Royal Sussex County Hospital your main role will be to monitor the extensive CCTV and alarm systems throughout the hospital, monitor and operate the radio systems, maintain an accurate record of all occurrences and liaise with other services.

Essential requirements for this role are good communication skills, good understanding of written and spoken English, staying calm under pressure and being able to sustain lengthy periods of concentration. Full formal training will be provided but experience of working in Control room settings would be advantageous.

Hours of work will be as required, but based on a 37.5 hour week, rostered duties will include weekends, nights and bank holidays. 25 days annual leave per annum.

Control Room staff will be recruited in accordance with BS7858:2006.

Main duties of the job

Supporting the Security Operational Manager in the delivery of a robust, cost effective, safe & secure security environment across all Trust sites including the Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital.

Protecting staff, patients and visitors from acts of violence and abuse ensuring wherever possible evidence is gathered and preserved to secure conviction of offenders. This will on occasion involve direct, recorded, CCTV surveillance of children and vulnerable patients displaying challenging behaviour.

To provide monitoring of and responses to Technical Security Systems, including Access Control, CCTV, and alarm systems across the Trust's facilities.

Provide advice & support to Trust staff, patients & visitors via intercom & help points located at entrances to buildings and in car parking facilities.

To establish and maintain positive working relationships with police and criminal justice services.

To work as part of a team and provide a fully comprehensive security service for the day to day operation of the Trust's Security Control Room.The post holder must have specialist

knowledge across a number of operational and administrative functions, including but not limited to CCTV operations, mobile radio communications, access control, intruder alarms, and be competent in the use of CCTV,

Job responsibilities

Day to day operation of the Security Control room to provide support and guidance to the Security team and assist them to meet the security needs of staff, patients, visitors, & ensure the protection of Trust.

Carry out the necessary system checks to ensure that equipment is fully functional and complete the equipment records logs. Keep accurate and detailed logs/records of all repairs and maintenance of the control room equipment and systems.

Assist the duty Security Team Leaders to supervise and deploy security staff to ensure that the needs of the security service, control room, traffic management, car park management, roving patrol and vehicle enforcement are met.

Maintain regular radio communication with all staff and ensure that staff follow the correct radio procedures and protocols. In the case of the roving patrol and other staff in lone worker situations, ensure that regular contact is made and logged to support safe working practices

Carry out formal documented handover sessions at the change of each shift for the purpose of updating on the activities undertaken on that shift and briefing on any outstanding incidents or key issues.

Maintain detailed, accurate and timely records on all incidents and activities using computer based systems.

To liaise and respond to requests from Police Officers when requested to provide information covering recorded material and to view and select information from such material as required all in accordance with the relevant legislation & Trust policies and procedures.

To report incidents or potential incidents to the Police or other agencies which includes the reporting of crimes and incidents taking place, persons or vehicles acting suspiciously, reporting premises or vehicles affected by crime

Where areas of the hospital or car parks are required to be cordoned off, arrange for staff to place cones or traffic barriers to prevent vehicles from parking.
