Job summary

An opportunity has arisen within University Hospitals Sussex NHS foundation trust for a SACT clinical educator across Worthing and St Richards hospitals, in reaching to RSCH as needed. The post holder will manage learners within the SACT day units and inpatient Haematology areas on both sites. They will work closely with clinical educators at Brighton and travel across as required.

This dynamic senior role works closely with the wider cancer teams within the cancer division ( CNS, support workers, Macmillan Manager, Haematologists, oncologists, FDS team and practice development) and uses the Patient First Improvement System (PFIS), a lean management programme designed by the Trust to develop our people's ability to solve problems and improve performance. The role will play a vital role in delivering expert patient care and support continued development of the workforce delivering anti cancer treatments. The post holder will support in the management and development of the band 6 clinical educator, giving expert coaching and guidance in formulating and delivering SACT teaching.

Main duties of the job

To lead and develop staff within the department.

  • Work with other cancer services users.
  • Utilise tools and techniques using Patient First Improvement System (PFIS).
  • Manage SACT training.
  • Develop cross site standardisation within the Trust, working closely with educators on all sites.
  • Attend cancer alliance and SACT nurse forums.
  • provide governance of UKONS helpline.
  • Undertake annual assessments of all staff within the SACT units.
  • Work clinically as needed to deliver SACT.
  • Work with Balcombe ward, the Ferhurst centre, Amberley unit and Apuldram managers to ensure the correct skills at the correct place at all times and to accommodate patients as needed for treatment.
  • Work with RSCH to develop immunotherapy toxicity pathways and reviews.
  • Work with the ANP to review service structure/pathways and improve efficiency within the unit and the cancer division.
  • Work with aseptic team to reduce wastage of SACT drugs.
  • Organise and deliver away days, informal and formal teaching to ensure the workforce remains updated on new SACT drugs and guidance.

  • Act as a role model and ensure effective staff supervision and clinical practice, working with staff and patients in an advisory, teaching and support capacity and maintaining professional competence, authority and credibility.
  • Work collaboratively with clinical experts including clinical director, lead cancer nurse, cancer managers, matrons, clinical nurse specialists, oncologists, haematologists, research teams and pharmacists in the development of expert person centred practice.
