Job summary

The first of its kind in any NHS Trust, a band 6 post has been developed to work as a Parkinson's and dystonia specialist nurse, as an in-reach nurse at RSCH, and offer an outpatient service for dystonia.

Do you want to work with an enthusiastic nurse led team that actively involves MDT team working and autonomy.

Working very closely with the lead Parkinson's Nurse Specialist and neurology team, the Parkinson's and Dystonia Nurse Specialist acts as a specialist practitioner demonstrating, nursing assessment, treatment, management and evaluation of Patients with Parkinson's and associated disorders, as an inpatient and outpatient service for dystonia, in the hospital setting. The role includes the key elements of clinical practice, professional leadership, advice, education development and contributes to practice and service development.

The focus of the role is to provide an integrated Trust approach to the delivery of care for the patient with Parkinson's and associated disorders.

Main duties of the job

  • Implementation and delivery of a clinically excellent nurse led patient service to support and improve services for patients.
  • To work with the lead nurse, fostering a climate of audit, research, innovation and clinical excellence through expert clinical practice and multidisciplinary working.
  • Providing clinical advice on the management of patients with Parkinson's to peers, medical colleagues, and doctors in training, other clinical nurse specialists: and working closely with other disciplines especially pharmacists, physiotherapists, speech therapists, dieticians and occupational therapists. Support patient mobilisation and discharge planning.
  • Working with the lead nurse in developing expert multi- professional education for all Trust healthcare professionals with relation to inpatient management.
  • Providing an excellent inpatient and outpatient Parkinson's' service within the Trust, building productive partnerships to facilitate this.
  • Working with the lead nurse towards contributing to the Trust's corporate objectives, including local and national standards and targets.
  • Providing nursing advice and the implementation of relevant Trust, local and national strategies and policies, NICE Guidelines 2017.
  • To provide treatment for dystonia using Botulinum Toxin in the outpatient setting.
