Job summary
We require Pharmacy Assistants to work in our busy unlicensed aseptic unit, providing chemotherapy dispensing services to the Sussex Cancer Centre, Oncology and Haematology ward patients, the Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children, Clinical Investigation and Research Unit and other patients within the Trust.
Duties within the aseptic unit include:
- Cytotoxic and monoclonal drug reconstitution
- Worksheet and label preparation
- Assembly of drugs and consumables
- Environmental monitoring
You will also take part in Aseptic-based activities on a weekend, as required.
Previous experience within a pharmacy or an aseptic unit and NVQ level 2 in Pharmacy Services is desirable but not essential.
Progression to band 3 - NVQ level 2 and some experience at the BSUH Aseptic unit is essential.

Main duties of the job
To provide assistance in the provision of pharmacy aseptic services at RSCH for patients within the Trust including: preparation of cytotoxic products, worksheet and label preparation and monitoring of the environment.
The job holder will need to be able to work on their own and with other members of the Pharmacy Aseptic Services team. Aseptic duties are to be carried out in line with the aseptic unit standard operating procedures (SOPs). Work within the pharmacy dispensary will be to the standards specified in the following: Pharmacy dispensing and labelling standards, Pharmacy departmental standard operating procedures, ensuring compliance with Responsible Pharmacist legislation.
