Job summary
We are looking for a Trust Doctor (ST4+ equivalent) - Simulation Fellow in our Paediatrics team at Worthing Hospital!
The role includes day to day care of patients on the Paediatric Wards.
This is a full-time/ part-time role including participation in a full shift rota system
The Fellow will be expected to work two days a week dedicated to patient safety, staff training, medical education and simulation projects. They will also have a clinical commitment to the Paediatric Department at St Richard's Hospital or Worthing Hospital and an additional on-call commitment with internal cover for the remainder of their week.
The Fellow will work closely with the simulation leads and Paediatric Nurse Development leads in developing simulation modules and providing simulation sessions. The post holder will gain experience in leadership and team working and expected to measure effectiveness of simulation (for example, reduction of never events, and patient safety issues). The successful candidate will have opportunities to develop abstract / research projects in simulation. Cross departmental work is encouraged.
Main duties of the job
- Care of General Paediatric and Neonatal patients under consultant supervision
- Attendance at Paediatric and Neonatal emergencies as required
- Care of Paediatric Outpatients under consultant supervision
- Care of Child Assessment Unit and rapid referral patients
- Support and teaching of junior medical, nursing staff and medical students
- To engage in Continuing Professional Development and Audit as appropriate
- To engage with the Trusts appraisal and revalidation process
So far as is consistent with the proper discharge of duties the post holder undertakes to deputise from time to time for absent colleagues.

Simulation Fellow
As well having timetabled clinical duties the simulation fellow will also be expected to develop the simulation service at UHSussex. This will involve development of simulation across the clinical care pathway for the entire multidisciplinary team. The simulation would be both educational and patient safety orientated, testing the clinical pathway. They would be expected to develop working relationships with other Simulation fellows within the Trust and outside the Trust.
