Job summary

The Radiology department at Worthing and Southlands Hospital are seeking to recruit friendly, hard working and enthusiastic people to assist the Radiologists, Sonographers and Radiographers within the University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust.The Trust is among the limited number of hospitals in the UK that has been awarded "Outstanding" by the CQC.Duties will be in all areas of the department and include; caring for patients, room preparation, putting in intravenous devices, inputting data onto computer systems, assisting the general flow of patients through the department, transporting patients and some clerical tasks.All training will be provided in relevant areas.Applicants should be prepared to have a flexible approach to their working pattern as a significant proportion of the work may take place outside of traditional working hours.If you have any questions please let us know and we will be happy to answer these for you.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  1. Generally assisting in the care of patients, including explaining procedures, changing requirements, helping and escorting patients or relatives as necessary.

  1. To safely transfer patients to the imaging department from other areas of the Hospital and to safely transfer them back. Transfer will involve using beds, trolleys, wheelchairs or on foot. This will involve using the Hospital lifts.

  1. To assist Radiographers, Assistant Practitioners or Radiologists to safely transfer and move patients during imaging examinations

  1. Liaise with wards, porters and staff to ensure patients are x-rayed or scanned in a timely manner

  1. Preparing the examination rooms before procedures

  1. To chaperone and support patients in the department to ensure their comfort and safety.

  1. To act upon instructions given to help provide a safe, clean and comfortable environment

  1. Maintain a high standard of cleanliness in compliance with the Trusts infection policy.

  1. Accurately check patients identity before all Radiology examinations

  1. To treat patients with empathy and respect at all times.

  1. To restock departmental areas as required reporting any shortages to the Superintendent Radiographer

  1. To take part in meeting the needs of the patients under the supervision of a qualified health professional and working within the Trusts policies, procedures and the philosophy of the department.

  1. To work collaboratively to provide a high standard of patient care.

  1. To carry out appropriate patient observations and procedures under supervision and with relevant training

  1. Prepare patients for CT and MRI scans by insertion of an intravenous cannula and administration of a saline flush (after appropriate training and supervision).

  1. Laying up sterile trolleys for procedures

  1. Scrubbing to assist during sterile procedures

  1. Preparing cytology slides

  1. Assisting patients in fluoroscopy rooms during procedures including the ability to wear radiation protective clothing at 0.35Pb equivalent for periods of up to 4 hours.

Administrative

  1. Reception of patients and preparation of appropriate paperwork for patient examinations

  1. Competently use computer systems to accurately register patients on the Radiology Information System (CRIS), healthcare records and room logs ensuring all data entered is accurate and correct

  1. Obtain previous notes if required

  1. Deal with enquires of the patients or their relatives in a helpful and friendly manner and record messages accurately for later action.

  1. Answer telephone enquiries in a helpful and friendly manner taking relevant effective action

  1. To participate in locating, collecting, returning and tracking of patient medical records

  1. Ensure patient and staff confidentiality at all times
