Job summary

Level 11 west is a 18 bedded, mixed sex, Trauma & Orthopaedic Ward. We are a friendly and supportive team providing care for patients admitted to the hospital as result of an emergency admission. The ward provides care for a variety of injuries including fractures, soft tissue trauma and spinal injuries. Injuries can vary from relatively minor lacerations to complex road traffic trauma patients offering nurses a chance to develop expertise in a range of orthopaedic skills.

We are looking to recruit a Band 6 Junior Sister/Charge Nurse to work as part of this friendly and supportive team. You must be enthusiastic with excellent communication skills in order to liaise effectively with the multi-disciplinary teams and strive to provide high standards of care. You will be a highly motivated and dedicated to your role and own personal development and have had experience as a Band 5 nurse. We are able to offer opportunities for development and have developed an in-house accredited orthopaedic module, which will be offered to Nurses working in the Trauma and Orthopaedic departments.

You will be expected to deputise in the absence of the ward manager, coordinate the ward and manage the flow of admissions.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible and accountable for the professional evidence based nursing care delivered to patients. Ensuring the highest quality, effective and compassionate care is received by the patients and their families / carers whilst on the ward.

Excellent, holistic and individualised nursing care will be delivered through assessment, planning, implementing and evaluating. This will be in line with local, Trust wide and National policies, procedures, values and behaviours. Promoting a supportive learning environment in which to supervise and mentor student nurses and Health Care Assistants.

As a member of the multi-disciplinary team the post holder will be expected to provide the highest standard of patient care and contribute to the smooth and efficient running of the ward over a 7 day period.

The post holder will continue to develop own knowledge and skills through locally agreed personal development plans and facilitates the development of others.
