Job summary

Chilgrove Discharge Unit are looking for an experienced, highly motivated ward manager to lead the team & provide nursing care of the highest standard.

Chilgrove is a 22 bedded Unit that facilitates patients that are medically fit for discharge. We are seeking a dynamic, motivated nurse that has experience at deputy sister / ward manager level who is enthusiastic and hardworking. Chilgrove promotes excellent team work and offers supportive mentoring, demonstrating a positive attitude to all working on the Ward.

As a Band 7 you will be expected to lead the multi-disciplinary team, and bring a positive attitude to the department. You will require outstanding communication skills and need to liaise between the Matrons and all others members of the MDT.

Chilgrove ward actively work towards improving patient care using the PFIS. Involving all staff members in making positive changes and influencing others. You will be expected to manage all staff members, deal with complaints at ward level and participate in clinical audits. Other responsibilities will include managing off duty, undertaking risk assessments and reviewing incident forms and formulating learning. Daily staffing huddles are routine to maintain excellent communication enhance safety for our patients and staff.

Main duties of the job

  • The primary aim of the role is to promote effective patient centred care through performing individual assessment of care needs, developing, implementing and evaluating programmes of care that meet the needs of the patient and their families/carers.
  • Chilgrove ward aims to provide ongoing care for patients that await a future discharge destination and are medically optimised.
  • Providing good leadership and continuing to promote safe inclusive and diverse environment to staff and patients

  • RGN 1st level. Educated to Diploma level in relevant subject/Educated to Degree Level
  • Mentorship or equivalent/ ENB 998
  • Evidence of Professional Development with extensive post registration experience
  • Broad professional vision. People management. Negotiation skills
  • Proven track record of leading/ assisting to lead a team. Motivation and Innovation. Ability to participate in and implement the development of nursing practice
  • Conflict management and negotiation skills. Ability to deal with complex situations. Have an understanding of the principle of budget management
  • Ability to work under pressure/stress tolerance. Conflict management, manage change, performance issues. Demonstrate emotional intelligence

  • NMC Registered.
