This is an exciting time to join the respiratory team as we move into a state of the art respiratory unit in the brand new Louisa Martindale Building.
The post holder will be a vital member of the UHSussex East Asthma team working with GP's, practice nurses/nurse practitioners to support the screening, planning and monitoring care of patients diagnosed with severe asthma. The successful post holder will be expected to manage a caseload of patients, deliver clinics both virtually and face to face and to support and coach patients to become independent with their management and treatments. The successful post holder will join an expanding team as we develop a Tier 3 Severe Asthma Spoke to deliver high quality care to patients with asthma both on an inpatient and outpatient basis; assisting to identify those patients who may be eligible for biological asthma treatments.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be actively involved in education, audit and research and contribute to the development of the Severe Asthma service.
To lead best practice in nursing care of patients with Asthma.
Taking on a caseload of patients to support from referral onwards, including contributing to planning diagnostic work ups to support asthma/severe asthma diagnosis and confirm eligibility for biologics and following -up eligible for biologics.
Supporting the UHSussex biologics MDT by providing information and insight on patient needs
Involvement in biologic clinics including adminstering biologics for patients, and education in self administration for future use at home.
The post holder will be able to assess, monitor and provide asthma action plans in the nurse led clinics.
To act as an autonomous practitioner and provide nurse led clinics, request, perform and analyse tests.
Demonstrate advanced nursing practices relevant to the area of Asthma, ordering and interpretation of diagnostics.
Ability to apply excellent analytical and judgement skills to interpret and compare a range of options on patient care
Demonstrate ability to act independently, use initiative and be accountable for own actions in the hospital and outpatient setting
Computer literate, able to use databases and other relevant programmes
Demonstrate the ability to educate and train other health professionals, to motivate and enthuse others and work across professional boundaries

Main Duties and Responsibilities
To lead best practice in nursing care of patients with Asthma.
Taking on a caseload of patients to support from referral onwards, including contributing to planning diagnostic work ups to support asthma/severe asthma diagnosis and confirm eligibility for biologics and following -up eligible for biologics.
