The Chief Nurse Fellows Programme is ready to welcome Nurses, Midwives and Allied Health Professionals in February 2024.This University Hospitals Sussex programme aims to engage participants across NHS Sussex in research, education and quality improvement activities to help shape practice and make a positive difference to patient care.

If you are a Registered Nurse, Midwife or other Allied Health Professional, including healthcare scientist, pharmacist psychologist, operating department practitioner or other, the Chief Nurse Fellows Programme has been developed for you.
Please note that if you currently work for a Trust external to UHSussex (You must still be working in the NHS Sussex area) and are applying to accept this position as a secondment opportunity: you must obtain agreement and authorisation from your current Trust before applying. Secondments can't be agreed without this approval.
Places on the Chief Nurse Fellows Programme are open to nurses, midwives and AHP's working in NHS Sussex in Band 5 up to 8a posts.

What will I do on the CNF Programme?
You will be supported to:
Identify an individual, research and quality improvement focused personal development plan
Develop, design, implement and evaluate a research based quality improvement project
Provide two formal presentations of project work
Undertake a written article for publication
Attend regular inter-professional Action Learning Sets
Develop leadership, quality improvement and change management skills
Develop research experience and knowledge in an area of practice relevant to your clinical work
Learn more about the NHS research landscape and opportunities for developing a career in research and utilising research in everyday practice
Develop confidence in academic and research skills

At UHSussex, research and innovation are firmly embedded within our Patient First Programme as high quality clinical research and innovation improve clinical outcomes for patients and enable everyone to be passionate about delivering excellent care every time.
This post has been introduced to support and nurture a research career to Masters Level and beyond whilst maintaining close links to clinical practice and collaborative working with colleagues in education and wider healthcare organisations. The Chief Nurse Fellows will support innovative improvements in care in Patient First themes: sustainability, the patient, our people, systems and partners, quality, research and innovation.
At the end of the Chief Nurse Fellows Programme, the post holder will not only have worked on a quality improvement project to enhance patient care but will also influence practice in a positive way whilst improving their own continuing professional development in a research role that will enable further development of a research career and clinical work that is embedded in evidence based practice.
Successful candidates will be funded to join the Chief Nurse Fellows Programme for 7.5 hours per week over 12 months.
Salary backfill will be provided at your current AfC basic rate to the clinical area and is available for staff within eligible professional groups up to AfC maximum Band 8a.
Between two and three places will be available per Clinical Division.
Over a twelve month period, participants will be funded to join the programme for7.5 hours per week and supported to develop an individually tailored portfolio of skills that will enable them to embed research in everyday practice, shape and improve clinical care. In addition, participants will develop confidence in their own academic and research skills to enhance their career.

University Hospitals Sussex is working in partnership with Health Education England to provide a pioneering opportunity for you to engage with research, education and improvement on our Chief Nurse Fellows Programme for 2023-2024.
In collaboration with colleagues across NHS Sussex , the programme will support you to develop an individually tailored portfolio of skills that will enable you to embed research in everyday practice, shape and improve clinical care whilst also recognising the value of clinically focused education and research on your own career development.
Who is this for?
All Nurses, Midwives and Allied Health Professionals* who have worked a minimum of one year at University Hospitals Sussex or an NHS organisation within NHS Sussex and have a minimum of one years post registration experience, working in a substantive post with a degree or Masters level qualification and an interest in improving care using research in their clinical area.
