Job summary

University Hospitals Sussex Neurosurgery/Spinal surgery service is looking to appoint 2 highly motivated Clinical fellows at ST 3+ level (Registrar) to commence as soon as possible for one year in the first instance. These posts are most suitable for junior doctors who aspire to become neurosurgeons and are preparing for FRCS neurosurgery exam.

Southeast Neurosurgery/Spinal surgery Unit is the Regional Centre for Neurosurgery and complex spinal surgery and provides a wide range of specialist adult services across the Sussex, Surrey and Kent region.

We sit within the directorate of Neurosciences under the division of Specialist services. There are 32 dedicated neurosurgical ward beds at the RSCH including 10 level 1 beds. In addition, there is access to 8 HDU/ITU beds on Level 7, Louisa Martindale Building. There is a 4 bedded recovery ward within the neurosurgical theatres complex on Level 5

We are fully equipped with 3 dedicated neuro/spinal theatres with intra-operative MRI facilities, brand new Neuro- interventional bi-plane angiography suit, OARM, 3 Neuro-navigation systems, CT scanner and multiple MDT rooms.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicants will cover both elective and emergency adult neurosurgery and spinal conditions covering Registrar on calls, working on wards, theatres, ICU/HDU and emergency department. Registrar on call rota is 1:10 and you will be working with a highly motivated theatre, nursing, therapy and pharmacy teams. This is an excellent opportunity for the middle grade doctors who aspire to complete neurosurgical training. All our posts are well supported and closely supervised by consultants and the successful post holders will be assigned to an Educational and Clinical supervisor and will have regular career progress supervision. The trust strongly supports teaching and training and the post holders who will be preparing for FRCS Neurosurgery exam will be closely guided and supported.

On Call Commitment: Registrar on call commitment is 1:10.
