Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and dedicated team player to join our dynamic children's' and young people's medical ward; we have a full time opportunity available.
This post offers an excellent learning opportunity for an experienced Health Care Assistant wishing to work in the Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital so we are looking for a committed, adaptable, and hardworking HCA with good interpersonal and communication skills who has ideally had experience with children.
Our medical ward is a 26 bedded unit that looks after children with a wide variety of medical conditions. The role will involve some patient care as well as duties involving stocking equipment and assisting the nursing staff. Additionally, you will be trained to work in the milk kitchen and prepare the feeds for children throughout the hospital.
We will offer you an orientation programme in a great working atmosphere with a friendly team, and we have links with the University of Brighton and Sussex should you wish to continue your professional education.
Main duties of the job
- Assists nursing staff with the individual care needs of children within the clinical area.
- Assists other nursing staff with the implementation and evaluation of planned care.
- After appropriate training and assessment undertakes a range of basic observations and personal care under the supervision and direction of the supervising nurse. , i.e. recording observations, Electrocardiogram recordings, application of plaster of Paris backslabs, removal of plaster of Paris, ward urinalysis test, sweat test and blood glucose monitoring.
- Undertakes routine recordings of height, weight and blood pressure on all children attending out patient clinics, recording the information in the patient records.
- Articulates concerns about the welfare/well-being of any child to a registered nurse immediately.
- Awareness of emergency procedures and how to activate them when needed.
- Maintains the privacy and dignity of children and carers.
- Escorts well children and their families to other departments at the direction of the supervising nurse
