Job summary
We are looking for a Lead Practice Educator to join our Emergency Department at the Royal Sussex County Hospital (RSCH), Brighton.
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the education team as well as setting, delivering and maintaining standards of education across the ED in conjunction with the acute floor at RSCH. They will also be responsible for overseeing the induction of all new nursing and HCA starters and experience in this will be essential.
Main duties of the job
To identify and promote evidence based nursing practice within the Emergency Department, through the implementation and facilitation of both classroom and direct clinical teaching / education, to ensure that staff are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their roles competently.
Lead on the orientation and competency programmes and a development programme for nurses new to their clinical areas, incorporating theoretical teaching, clinical skills assessment & formulation of personal development plans. Facilitate the professional development and education of all members of staff in a positive learning environment. Ensure band 2-6 nursing team members are working towards and completing local and national competencies.
As lead specialist for education in acute & emergency care, provide specialist advice and guidance to other personnel, undertake audit & implements research, develop professional policies, standards & best practice guidelines. The role also involves representing the Trust at local and regional levels. The post holder works without direct supervision.

- To work within the Code of Professional Conduct at all times & adhere to health & safety legislation.
- To be an active part of the senior nursing team in the Emergency Department and acute floor as a whole
- To undertake the roles and responsibilities of the senior nurse on duty in the absence of the Matron
- To be the lead nurse for the shift when required.
