Job summary

Exciting Opportunities And Developments For Trained Registered Nurses with an interest in Respiratory Nursing

Byworth is a 20 bedded medical respiratory ward admitting general medical patients, primarily with a variety of acute and chronic respiratory conditions such as COPD, Asthma, TB, bronchiectasis, interstitial lung disease, which may require basic respiratory support. Advanced treatments offered on Byworth include non-invasive ventilation, chest drains and Optiflow.

WHAT WE OFFER:

  • A full development plan has been designed to help any successful candidate to gain the knowledge, skills and experience to work in this specialist area.
  • A variety of experiential learning will be offered including working with the outreach team, a visit to the Lane Fox unit at St Thomas' Hospital, London, and working with a respiratory specialist nurse. As part of the development role within the 18 month programme there may be an opportunity for secondment to work on critical care. This would help consolidate learning from the ward and support further development when returning to the respiratory ward.
  • The opportunity will be given to attend the respiratory and mentorship module at Brighton University. This will then open up the prospects to apply for promotion within the respiratory ward.

Main duties of the job

We welcome applications from those who currently hold a UK NMC registration. If you currently hold an overseas nursing qualification and require sponsorship we are not currently direct hiring Internationally Qualified Nurses.

Job responsibilities

Clinical

  1. Is responsible for the assessment, planning and implementation of care and assists in the interpretation of data relevant to the patients condition and progress
  2. Assists in the identification of patient problems and needs with the patient, their carers, senior nursing staff and other staff as appropriate
  3. Identifies the priorities of care for patients
  4. Identifies realistic goals for patients in care plans
  5. Gives skilled care to patients and provides support to their carers
  6. Administers drugs and treatments as prescribed according to the NMC guidelines and the Trusts Guidelines for the Safe and Secure Handling of Medicines
  7. Changes care plans and goals according to evaluation and discussion with the multidisciplinary team
  8. Demonstrates an understanding and skill in the care and management of the critically ill patient
  9. Works closely with all members of the care team to ensure the needs of the critically ill patient are met
  10. Demonstrates proficiency in the care of CVP lines and the administration of IV Therapy in accordance with Trust Policy.

  12. maintains accurate documentation to facilitate the continuity of care for patients transferred to other areas
