Job summary

Wendy House Nursery is an NHS workplace nursery based at the Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards Heath, caring for children between the ages of 6 months to 5 years.

We are open Monday to Friday from 7am to 5.30pm supporting working parents of University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust and other NHS organisations.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a caring, enthusiastic, and motivated Nursery Assistant Practitioners to join our fun, friendly and dedicated team to work with babies and young children

The role is a full time position working Monday to Friday (37.5hrs per week)

The applicant must holdeithera minimum Level 2 qualification in Childcare or have appropriate experience working with young children.

The role is to work with our over 2 year old and preschool children, however should the right candidate have better knowledge and experience within a different age group there is some flexibility.

This post does not require a formal childcare qualification however experience working with young children in a nursery environment is essential. Additional training can be given. With opportunities at completing a various childcare training.

The nursery is closed Bank Holidays and usually between Christmas and New Year (this is always reviewed)

The position is to start as soon as possible subject to clearances and notice periods, however should a childcare student be interested then some flexibility around start date will be considered.

As a nursery we are looking for a person who is friendly and committed to caring for young children. You must be polite, hardworking and have good communicative skills as team working and strong parent/carer partnership working is paramount.

  • To support the Nursery Nurses and Room Leader in providing an environment that offers encouragement and praise for every child
  • To support the Nursery Nurses and Room Leader to create and maintain a safe, warm, caring and stimulating environment that together with encouragement will ensure the development of each child.
  • Interact with the children in order to support, encourage and observe the children to promote independence and development to enable the child to progress
  • Support the implementation of daily activities which stimulate sensory, creative messy play and also covers the seven areas of learning as stated in the EYFS frame work
  • With the support of the Nursery Nurses and Room Leader recognise and meet the needs of each child, and their family, as individual
  • To help promote and encourage outside learning opportunities, assisting the children to explore the environment within the Nursery gardens, through trips to local areas, including to and from school whilst ensuring staff ratios and health and safety guidelines are adhered to.
  • Act as a Key Person for a group of children working in partnership with the Nursery Nurses, Team Leader and parents.
  • To undertake any other reasonable childcare or nursery related duties that may be required.
  • To assist with providing healthy and nutritious snacks throughout the nursery day.
  • To assist in the implementation and co-ordination of nursery fund raising and social events throughout the year.
  • To attend and contribute to staff and Team meeting.
  • To assist Nursery Nurses and Room lead with the implementation of the Early Years Foundation Stage and any other childcare and government initiative.
