We are recruiting for a permanent full or part time post and looking for a dynamic and experienced nurse to join our innovative Home Dialysis Team. The unit is open Monday to Friday 07.30-17.30, including bank holidays. Full time 37.5hrs, 4 days a week or Part time minimum 28.5.hrs, 3 days a week, can be discussed at interview.
The Home Dialysis Unit at Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals has over 60 patients using peritoneal dialysis and approximately 40 patients doing haemodialysis at home. Joining our team at this exciting time will allow us to expand the service to enable more patients to enjoy the freedom of self-care and increased autonomy while living with a chronic illness.
You will be fully supported to enable the provision of high-quality clinical care for a caseload of home dialysis patients who require renal replacement therapy and may have complex needs.
Main duties of the job
Supporting and instigating the development of the Home Dialysis nursing service to reflect changing local or patient needs and nationally determined and locally developed professional standards.
Support the development of the Home Dialysis service to ensure fair and informed patient access, this involves current Home Dialysis patients as well as recruitment from pre dialysis.
Securing and assuring the highest standards of clinical care with the support of senior staff.
Supporting the effective management of clinical and non-clinical risk and resources reporting to the Unit Manager, Matron and Service Manager accordingly.

Working with pre-dialysis and ward colleagues develop and evaluate the pathway for acceptance of new patients onto the home dialysis programme, promoting holistic care, independence and minimum disruption to their lives.
Assist in the monitoring and maintenance of agreed standards, identifying, correcting and escalating shortfalls appropriately for example low dialysis adequacy results.
Assist in the development and review of clinical protocols together with Manager and medical Consultants.
Demonstrate, monitor and identify shortfalls in standards of documentation and legal records pertaining patient care
Participate in research and networking programs appropriate to the advancement of the Home dialysis/renal department, as identified and agreed by the Manager and lead Consultants.
Assist and support the implementation of quality monitoring systems and patient satisfaction surveys, completing the relevant documentation in support of this and reporting through the multidisciplinary meetings.
Actively seek patient and carer views on their experience and feed back to the team to improve understanding and communication between patients and health professionals
Assist in the monitoring of all aspects of clinical governance locally including clinical incident reporting.
Assist in making changes locally where audit and monitoring indicates changes necessary to meet the needs of the local home dialysis population.
Support the supervision and management of Home Dialysis clinical nursing practice and staff re-training and assessment
Support and ensure adherence to the clinical governance framework for Home Dialysis nursing by ensuring appropriate policies, protocols and guidelines are in place to support specialist practice.
With senior staff, identify and minimise clinical and non-clinical risk issues reporting to Home Dialysis Manager, Matron and Service Manager
Assist in production and evaluation of data and activity statistics when required.
