Job summary

This Deputy Manager position is based at PRH A&E Reception, Lewes Road, Haywards Heath. This is a front-line, patient service position, where positive, caring and supportive interactions with patients are a priority.

The post holder will provide support to the Emergency Department Reception Team Manager with the day to day running of the A&E Reception Admin Team including line management responsibilities and rota coordination. The role will include working on quality improvements and development within A&E Reception. The post holder will also undertake Reception cover as and when required to provide support to the team and the service.

The post holder will provide an efficient and effective support role and administrative service to the A&E Reception team managing a regular intake of patients arriving at the department with a variety of illnesses & injuries.

The post holder should have excellent communication and inter-personal skills, interacting with tact, diplomacy and resilience as you manage the A&E Reception Admin Team and develop the team to provide a high quality service for Patients within the A&E Department.

The success of this role is dependent on the accuracy, organisation and timely response inputting and managing patient information into a variety of systems, whereby patient care is effectively supported, income streams maximised and data quality is optimal.

Main duties of the job

  • To manage and coordinate the workflow within the administration team and its daily activities in accordance with agreed procedures, ensuring that a comprehensive, high quality service is provided to internal and external colleagues/agencies
  • Ensure all rotas for the A&E Reception Administration Team are completed, allocated and meet the needs of the service
  • To provide administrative support to the Emergency Floor and across the Acute Floor
  • To assist in the day to day administration requirements of A&E Reception based at PRH
  • Provide leader support to the A&E Reception Administration Team members, including the management of sickness reviews, appraisals, and mandatory training requirements.
  • To support the A&E Reception Admin Team with complex and/or sensitive queries and situations and to support the Service Manager/Ward Manager to respond to complaints
  • The post holder must be able to work unsupervised and be able to manage the reception area alone.
  • Use own judgement to prioritise tasks in order to process patients more efficiently and according to clinical need
