We're looking for experienced and compassionate clinicians to join our Clinical team in the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC). This is an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of our "virtual care" model -- providing remote clinical assessment, triage and advice to ensure patients get the right care at the right time.

This post offers a development pathway for experienced and confident Band 5 Nurses ready to progress to Band 6, with full training and ongoing support, as well as established band 6 paramedics & nurses.

Main duties of the job

Provide remote clinical assessments, onwards referrals or home management advice using clinical decision support software and other IT systems for patients presenting to the 999 service.

Support and coach Emergency Medical Advisors (EMAs) and dispatch teams within the EOC (Ambulance resource dispatch teams).

Clinically assess, prioritise and manage incidents to ensure patient safety and appropriate allocation of resources.

Communicate effectively with patients, carers, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals, using negotiation skills as required to coordinate the best care and facilitate referrals as appropriate.

Act as a point of clinical leadership and decision-making within the EOC, including safeguarding and capacity/consent decisions.

Job responsibilities

The role requires:

  • Permanent full-time contracts

  • Permanent part-time contracts (Minimum of 15 hours per week)

Please note, we operate 365 days per year, 24 hours per day and there will be a requirement to work a variety of shifts including evenings, nights, weekend and bank holidays. Unsocial hours are payable in addition to the salary quoted, dependent upon working pattern. You will be expected to commit to one of the attached rotas, please ensure you review these prior to applying.

Training Commitment:

8.5 weeks full time NHS Pathways 999

  • 2 weeks NHSP Training,

  • 1 week CAD training (all Monday-Friday).

  • 2 weeks EMA mentoring (shift work),

  • 1 week NHSP clinician training (Monday-Friday)

  • 2 weeks mentoring (shift work)

The training and mentoring is full time (37.5 hours per week) whether you are applying for a full time or part time position.You will be required to attend the full 8 weeks of training, no annual leave or days off will be agreed during this time. Failure to attend will result in your employment with the trust being terminated.

Please note you will be required to be flexible during your mentoring period as we are unable to plan shifts ahead of time.

Due to licence requirements, you must pass all assessments during your training to pass the course. You will be offered a resit if required, if unsuccessful at the resit your employment will be terminated immediately with the Trust. In addition to this, you will need to be signed off as clinically safe following mentor and diamond weeks, again failure to meet the required standard will result in your employment being terminated with the Trust.

  • Registered with the HCPC/NMC (Adult nurses only) with at least two years post registration experience since 2020 in urgent, emergency or unscheduled care
  • Evidence of CPD in addition to the minimum requirement of your registering body.
  • Evidence of supporting development of less experienced clinicians or non-clinical staff
  • Evidence of communicating clinical information clearly and sensitively with patients, relative and healthcare professionals

Desirable

  • Demonstrated experience in telephone triage/remote clinical assessment
  • A high level of typing accuracy and computing competence
  • Recognised mentoring, coaching or supervision qualification
