Assistant Driving Standards Manager

Job summary

The role will support the operational lead on all matters relating to current driving standards, road risk and collision investigation. It will provide assurance to the Trust Board through the chain of management, that the operational workforce is operating within a safe and legal framework, reflective of current education, training, legislation and Trust policy and procedures. The post holder will have knowledge of driver related risk, collision investigation, driver records and support the trust wide compliance with existing and evolving legislation and internal policies and procedure.

Main duties of the job

  • Delivery of timely completion of investigation reports;
  • Support in the reduction of road traffic collisions
  • Contribute to monthly assurance reports provided to the Associate Director of Fleet and Logistics on individual and corporate current;
  • Ensure that 100% of all licenses are checked in accordance with current policy;
  • Reduction of incident reporting times
  • Timely provision of high-quality reports on road risk;
  • Timely and successful delivery of all projects for which responsibility has been delegated;
  • Maintain responsibility for personal development, including attending seminars and training courses as agreed with line manager;
  • Undertake audits of driver behaviour, such as compliance to vehicle roadworthiness checks
  • Provide an operational response to the most serious of collisions involving Trust property.
  • Jointly represent the interest of the Trust in any national discussion on driving or road related matters;
  • Design and set monthly benchmarking targets from the analysis of complex insurance reports.
  • Work in close cohesion with the education and development team on all driving standard matters

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Full driving licence with no more than 3 points on application for motor vehicles of Category B & C1 (manual) (Category A/C/C+E/D desirable)
  • Degree or equivalent level of theoretical knowledge and experience

Desirable

  • Hold a blue light driving Qualification
  • Undertaken a collision investigation course
  • Expert with regards to Incident Data Recorders

Knowledge

Essential

  • Road Traffic/Transport Legislation
  • Extensive knowledge of the Driving standards industry
  • Current knowledge in the developments of driver training and driving techniques and of the underlying requirements of the Driver Training Advisory Group, Joint Emergency Services High Speed Driver Training Advisory Group and the Driving Standards Agency.
  • Extensive knowledge of legislation relating to vehicle types, driving licences, and motoring issues.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Motor Claim Industry/insurance sector
