This is an exciting opportunity for a newly established senior role at South-East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking for a Chief of Staff at 8d to join our Chief Executive Office. The post holder will work closely with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and the Executive Directors. The role will help co-ordinate the delivery of core functions of the Trust in order to support delivery of services and Trust objectives and will be responsible, with other senior corporate staff, for achievement of performance, quality, and financial standards and for the provision of high standards of regulatory activity and patient safety.
The Chief Executive office is the public face of South-East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust and sets the tone and quality of culture within and acts as the interface within to outside the organisation. It also supports the Chief Executive in undertaking the leadership of the organisation, performing a wide range of complex tasks, ensuring the safe and secure corporate management of the organisation and the best use of their time.
Main duties of the job
The role of Chief of Staff has been created specifically to work closely with the CEO and the executive team. You will need to be adept at recognising the need for strategic influencing and develop excellent relationships with key internal Executives and senior management and senior external stakeholders and will undertake horizon- scanning to inform the CEO of emerging risks, challenges and opportunities.
The Chief of Staff will provide effective leadership, acting as a role model for our people and ensuring the development of a culture and core values which enable SECAmb to continuously improve and innovate.
The Chief of Staff will be accountable for the delivery of a Trust portfolio and will work with system partners as required, contributing to the development and management of the overall corporate agenda.

- Take a responsibility for leading the Office of the Chief This means working closely with and on behalf of the Chief Executive to ensure that Our Improvement Journey is central to everything we do. Being clear that we are working on the right priorities.
- Regularly lead on a number of projects, both internally and externally, as commissioned by the Chief Executive, using their planning and co-ordination skills and influencing skills to bring together resources to move the Trust forward in deploying our strategy.
- Support the Chief Executive in establishing a high functioning office, coordinating and liaising with other Executives and other designated teams and internal and external stakeholders to ensure the delivery of the strategy and management of the relevant key activities.
- As part of this coordinating role work with the Company Secretary to ensure that the Trusts governance forward plan is strategically driven, risk focused and is fully synchronised with programmes and other key delivery activities.
- Work with the Company Secretary to ensure that there is an integrated corporate workplan and calendar to ensure the flow of information, decision making and assurance in our governance
- Manage the budgets of the Office of the Chief
- To support the Chief Executive and be responsible with the Executive Directors and through them to manage all the Trusts resources, ensuring the Trust delivers its strategic goals, complies with the requirements of their regulators and meets its obligation in contracts with commissioners.
