Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a kind, motivated and clinically skilled practitioner psychologist to join our acute male ward and PICU unit in the London Borough of Greenwich.

We would welcome applications from Psychological Therapists and Psychotherapists (including Systemic Psychotherapists) holding AFT, UKCP, BCP or BACP registrations.

We are looking for a psychologist who is able to lead and inspire, and who is wanting to contribute to the development of highly effective clinical teams.

The successful applicant will work closely with the multi-disciplinary team/s to ensure that they are able to provide a range of evidence-based psychosocial interventions for our service users who are in crisis, and their support networks including families and carers. The roles will also involve working collegiately with clinical teams across the trust, service partners (e.g., third sector services), and other statutory services.

Main duties of the job

  • Psychological assessment and intervention with service users who present in a state of psychological/ emotional crisis. Individual therapeutic interests and preferences are promoted and will be actively supported with specialist supervision and training if aligned with directorate priorities (specifically trauma-informed care and family/systems working).
  • Clinical work could involve crisis focused DBT, CBT, family/systemic interventions and trauma-focused, eg EMDR. These would map onto psychotherapeutic pathways in the acute sector and community teams.
  • Family support for patients carers
  • Liaison and joint work with the multidisciplinary team

Essential

  • Post doctoral training in relevant specialist areas of clinical psychology or equivalent as accredited by the BPS
  • Registration with the Health & Care Professions Council as a Practitioner Psychologist.
  • Leadership and management training
  • Registration with AFT, UKCP, BCP or BACP registrations.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment, both as a professionally qualified care coordinator and also within the context of a multidisciplinary care plan.
  • Experience of the application of psychology in different cultural context

Desirable

  • Experience working with homeless or rough sleeping people
  • Experience of leading and managing services including managing staff and initiating and implementing service development.

  • Skills in the use of complex methods of neuropsychological and psychological assessment, intervention and management
  • Ability to organise time effectively, use own initiative and to work under supervision where appropriate
  • Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS
