Job summary
Bexley Intensive Older People Home Treatment Team is a multidisciplinary team, providing a service during the week at 8am -8pm hours and during the weekend 9am-5pm to individuals in mental health crisis with the principal aim of providing an effective alternative to older adults inpatient care. This involves intensive clinical work over short periods of time to prevent the need for admission or facilitate safe early discharge.
The Intensive Home treatment team works in close collaboration with the other elements of the crisis services, Mental Health Liaison, Crisis line, as well with older people in-patient and community mental health teams, local authorities and emergency services.
The post holder will provide line management and clinical & operational leadership to the Bexley Intensive Home Treatment team, working closely with members of the team to maximise effectiveness and efficiency of service provision. The post-holder will ensure that the team delivers a high-quality service and collaborates effectively with other clinical teams within the older adult mental health directorates, and with partnership agencies. The post-holder will be responsible for maintaining effective communications with senior clinical and managerial personnel to ensure positive working relationships and contribute to service improvement initiatives.
Main duties of the job
To co-ordinate the activities of the team on a shift basis, prioritising and appropriately delegating all referrals for assessment.
To deputise for the team manager as required.
To provide supervision, mentorship & leadership for junior staff and students within the team.
To participate, and where required to do so, take a lead in agreed clinical and strategic projects associated with the provision of the assessment service. This will include planning, implementing, reviewing and revising these projects as necessary in line with targets and NSF requirements.
To participate in the collection of robust data relevant to the activity of the team.
To assist the team manager in identifying and dealing with potential areas/events/situations, which may have an impact on the financial expenditure or reputation of the team.
To take responsibility for ensuring that staff within the team are deployed to meet prioritised needs.
To provide staff rotas ensuring the service is covered by appropriate skill mix and addressing service needs.
To demonstrate the ability to analyse, respond and lead staff through difficult situations as appropriate.
To participate in the planning and development of the service and sound financial management skills
To undertake the investigation of incidents and compile of reports as required to do so and within set deadlines.
